I'm not going to flog a dead horse here.

I re-installed my Sempron after having all the difficulties with the X2. (Another destructive Win XP-H re-install).

The Sempron is very sluggish now. 30 mins of cpu time taking 2 hours of real time.

Only two differences between now and before installing the X2:

(1) This BIOS was updated from ver. 3.11 to 3.13

(2) I changed the stock cpu fan to an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro.

I'll "bite" with what was previously suggested about the stock 250 watt PSU being inadequate (especially perhaps after the Arctic install).

I'll kill two birds with one stone here. I will be building that AM2 over-clocking box, and I will need a PSU.

So, I'll buy now for that project, and can also use to see if PSU was the problem all along with my X2 install.

SO... I see the following, but I'll also ask for your recommendation on Brands that you would trust in PSU's.

I think this has adjustable rails for oc'ing, and I'm guessing OCZ is a good brand?

Antec TruePower 2.0 or SmartPower 2.0, both have a dedicated CPU rail and a second rail for the rest. I have a SmartPower 500W and it runs fairly cool and very quiet. There is enough power to run 4 HDs, two DVDs and a power hungry NVidia video card while keeping very stable voltages on the CPU.

I quote AMD is logical:

I would look at something like a SeaSonic S12-330. It is a high efficiency quality supply, and 330W is plenty.

The seasonics are very efficient and stable and as long as you don't want a power hungry graphic card it's okay.

When upgrading both of my boxes, I installed Antec SmartPower-2 PSU's - no worries, work great, and quiet.

I quote AMD is logical:

Thanks.

I would like to add that I don't think any of these problems are due to the power supply. A bad PS usually causes reboots, hangs, shutdowns, and can sometimes mimic other hardware problems due to various parts of the system not getting clean power.

This problem looks like a bad Win XP install. With the X2 the crippled version of XP tried to configure itself to dual-core, but only succeeded in corrupting itself. The now corrupt install of XP won't work right with any processor anymore.

ps If you've already reinstalled XP, this may be cool n quiet kicking in and throttling things.

I am running a coolergiant 480 in my machine, liked it so much i installed a 380 in my dad's machine. It has proved itself to be very solid. It isn't the cheapest out there, but I happen to think it is one of the best. NEVER skimp on ps, I have seen too many probs traced backed to a weak one. A good friend of mine has burned up a 9800pro and my old 6800, both due to a weak psu.

The Antec will be powering a rig that was gifted to me by the guys at XtremeSystems. The story of why the gift is along one but it all started with a case of steaks , that was followed by the new rig and for a sweet ending a box of chocolate truffles.

Once the water cooling lines are burped of gas today, will be benchmarked and will start runing dc projects by tommorrow. (I have not selected which projects yet.)

This is the basic configuration of the rig which has been baptized with the name XS_Diablo_Legion:

Case: Lian Li V2000
PSU: Antec TruePower 550
Motherboard: DFI LanParty Ultra-D
CPU: Opteron 170 (with Integrated HeatSink removed) clocked to 2.5GHz
RAM: OCZ 2x1Gb Platinum EL
GPU: nVidia MX4000
Audio: included on motherboard 7 Channel Realtek
HD: 2x 36Gb Western Digital Raptor 10k RPM 8Mb cache SATA These are in RAID 0 array
HD: 250Gb Western Digital 7200 RPM 8Mb cache SATA
DVD: NEC 505 16x Dual Layer DVD burner w/ 8Mb cache PATA
Floppy: Sony
Cables: DFI (included with motherboard)

Cooling is provided by:

Swiftec Storm G4
Swiftec MCR-220 Radiator
Danger Den D5 pump
Danger Den FillPort
7/16ths MasterKleer Tubing
Yate Loon 120mm x 25mm Fans (on radiator)
SilenX 120mm x 38mm 14dBA 72cfm Fans (case intake and case exhaust)

Sloth has a mighty brother indeed. :)

Do not add it. It was posted in a thread that was censored, by a modetrator. Let it be censored.

Yes it is very nice. The window has the name of all my team members that joined in the gift ... all the names forming the team Logo.... Very classy, like the team members that were unfairly slandered in this forum.

Were you contacted by the moderator that PM me saying he was going to ask you to ban me? But I digress, and I know this post will get deleted.
