Message 53734 - Posted: 17 Jun 2008, 2:43:24 UTC

Yesterday, and again today, I noticed a Rosetta unit active, but Windows Task Manager showed it getting no CPU. Both times I aborted the unit. The most recent looked like this in the message log:

6/16/2008 9:34:38 PM|rosetta@home|Unrecoverable error for result t405__CASP8_JUMPAB_RES81to192_SAVE_ALL_OUT_BARCODE__3758_12512_0 (aborted via GUI RPC)

I hate to see my PC sitting idle when I could be processing SETI or ClimatePrediction.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just noticed this as well. I did a quick reboot and it started again. But agreed, CPU sitting idle is very painful...

On both Windows and Linux, tasks are crashing after a second, with stack traces, like:

I'm just curious if you guys are aware that graphics only semi work on the new boinc v6 beta client with protection enabled. You can see text, just no images.

More validate errors against 1.28 after 3 hours. 171903129 and 171681810.

After seconds. 171627348.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

This one crashed with a really long error log and a huge windows debugger call log.

I had paused the 5.96 stuff I was crunching on so that I could get a 1.28 task into the firewall ok before I go off for the night. But it died right away from the looks of it. I had to authorize it to go through the firewall, but I did that right away. So there was only a few seconds of delay getting started.
I then left it alone, and restarted the 5.96 tasks I was running.

I understood from the release log that 1.28 should eliminate unnecessary data base files. I completed two v1.28 tasks and I still have (now) 6 mini-rosetta databases totaling 76 MB. Delete doesn't work or doesn't work as I expect?

That is odd. Do you still have these? they should have been deleted. You can manually delete the databases (minirosetta_database_revXXXXX.zip). The current version is minirosetta_database_rev23035.zip.

I still have the mini DBs after processing several v1.28 tasks; something isn't working. Can anyone else verify that deletion of old DBs has worked on their windows XP machines?

I can confirm, two DB's are still present along with the current version.

Same here. I aborted the WU and I'll keep an eye on the new ones.

Okay, there must be an issue with the file cleanup on Windows. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the heads up.

There was a little miscommunication and the person who ran the local test confirms that we can reproduce this with the t405 task so we have something to work with now. It appears to be just a linux issue. When the boinc api calls exit, it stalls.

I've got a Mini 1.28 task running now, Win XP. I have rev21566, rev22619 and rev23035 all in Rosetta's projects directory.

yeah, the cleanup is not working. I figured out the problem. stupid mistake on my part. sorry. Hopefully it will work in the next release which should be coming soon. In the mean time, you can all manually remove the old minirosetta_database files.

What rev numbers of minirosetta_database files are safe to delete? Keep up the good work.

I have a problem with rosetta, starte only a few day's ago. When a task is terminated it doesn't try to report its results. It just stay's there at 100% 'running'
I'm on linux with rosetta beta 5.96.

I don't know how to fix this, so i suspended rosetta alltogether.
If you need more information, please ask.

Winston, that issue is discussed in a few different ways through this thread. A recent batch of tasks seems to have caused this to occur more frequently on Linus machines. Aborting the problem task will clear the problem until it is fully corrected.
