Will there be optimalizations for PowerPC CPUs? It appears the AltiVec engine isn't used by Rosetta, which -if used- could speed up crunching a *lot*.

I'll be looking into this. We had issues compiling rosetta to support 10.3.9 and up and the solution prevents us from being able to use altivec. It's a trade off, either we support 10.3.9 w/o being able to add altivec or only support 10.4, and since there are still a lot of 10.3.9 users, we decided on the former.

See the Team MacNN boards for how they got around this on their SETI client - the libraries changed between 10.3.9 and 10.4, but you can compile under 10.4 for either, it just takes an extra step.

We will be distributing the code really soon--it would be great if people could try Bill's suggestion out and let us all know how it goes!
