One trouble I see with backdating is the fact that you will never be right the credit alterations would be based from a guestimate and to alter everyone's credit either way the person doing it would need to get information on every computer setup with every overclock to get it accurate. There would be too much hastle involved to end up with a highly inacurate points table. I think you will just have to live with the stats as they are and compete for now on getting the highest "fair credit system" RAC. In the grand schemee of things Rosetta is in it's infancy and to think we have got our total in about half a year it shouldn't take long for that to become a small dent in the totals. So in time it will all level out. I think you misunderstand. It's a relatively straight forward process and requires no knowledge of any PC setup. It's simply the credit weighting for each WU * number of decoys run. Its exactly the same process as is being implemented for the future. Faster/overclocked computers get more credit, not per decoy, but because they run more decoys in a given period. HTH Danny P.S. These posts will probably be deleted, but at least its civil again ;) |

I did misunderstand that :p but still would it not require the person doing it to sift through every user and work out who used opti clients and who didn't? which again is a lot of work. IMO I can't see any issue with increasing old credit claims that used the standard clients aslong as no one is penalised i.e. points removed from opti users, I'm just not sure if it would be worth the hastle. I think many have stepped back and had a breather and rethink to the situation and flamewars and like me have decided to keep it civil form now on. :D There are projects outside of BOINC... |

I don't know what hassle it would be, if someone of the payed staff at Rosetta has to invest several man-days in it, it's perhaps not worth it. But if some robot could do it automatic it should be fine. I thought the latter was possible, but I don't know. |

David Kim did at least some work on it. I don't think optimised clients or OS or anything would need to be taken into account as it would be based on 'golden machines' - i.e. machines of known spec. Personally I'd still like to see the info as there are some interesting comparisons to make between the efficiency of different CPUs, OS's, amounts of cache, amounts of RAM, Hyperthreading etc... |

Well if a robot could be configured to go through every user I don't know and I have no idea of the complexity involved in setting something like that up. Also all those not involved in this whole issue may be confused as to why they have suddenly got a large additional credt, this may not be a bad thing but it may confuse some people that only use credits of a measure of wheether their output is correct and it may annoy people who only put their name to output in line with the boinc scoring, opening up a whole new flamewar. But that's just sepculation. There are projects outside of BOINC... |

The thread was locked, please respect that. Messages will be deleted from this post on (I don't feel it necessary to delete 10 messages that snuck in while I was in bed). You're free to hypothesize how things could be done, but please remember this is no longer an issue, it's been decided, and the only thing that will do anything to past scores would be a meteor hitting Seattle :) |

THERE WILL BE NO BACKDATING. THE INFORMATION TO DO SO NO LONGER EXISTS AND EVEN IF IT DID, IT WOULD BE INACCURATE BECAUSE OF HOST MERGING AND LOST DATA DUE TO SERVER ISSUES. |
