Perhaps you could detach from any Rosetta projects that are in Boinc, exit Boinc, then delete the project folder "boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta" or similar in C:ProgramDataBOINCprojects (which shouldn't be there if you've detached, but it might not have deleted everything), then restart Boinc and try attaching again. Maybe it got stuck halfway. If all else fails, try connecting back to the http version instead of https. It will still work for the foreseeable future.

Success! I did a search for any file containing "Rosetta". There wasn't anything in the projects folder, but there was a notice file, a job log file, and an account file. I deleted those, and stopped BOINC. After restarting BOINC, I was able to re-add Rosetta using the new URL.

I don't know if those files were the issue, or if restarting BOINC was the key. I had originally used the BOINC Manager to remove Rosetta, so <shrug>. But all good now!

On the contrary.....the old URL no longer returns new work (not sure about reporting completed work).

I just got a flood of new tasks, starting just before I set No new tasks.

All but one of the flood of tasks finished before their deadlines, with my help required to prevent other BOINC projects from taking over the CPU. The last one didn't. It looks like the 4.20 application went out with estimated run times around 5% of the actual run times.

Another BOINC project did the same yesterday, so I may be unable to do much for Rosetta@home for a few days.

I am using a Raspberry Pi 4 with Ubuntu Server. I can detach the project OK but when I go to re-attach all I can do is pick from a list which indicates it is using HTTP.
I cannot find anywhere within BOINC to add the HTTPS address.
Is there an intermediate step I am missing ?

I resolved the problem by removing boinc, updating/upgrading, and then re-installing boinc.
Then when I selected Rosetta@home from the list it had the https url.
My stats appear to have gone back to zero but that's not an issue in the scheme of things.

I guess the list was out of date. I can find no way (in Windows Boinc Manager) of making it be up to date without a reinstallation. Perhaps it's possible to edit a file somewhere.

Where are you getting your stats? I use https://www.boincstats.com which retains everything, as it works across all computers.

Add project -> manually enter the address in the text field, you aren't limited by the list BOINC provides!

As for your stats, you only lost the local graphs on BOINC itself, but your points are still on your account, as you can check.

Even in Boinc, the user stats should still be correct. Only host stats will be wrong. Maybe it loses the history of the user stats, but the most recent entry on the graphs for user stats should be right, it comes from the server. If you need the host stats to be correct, I think you can merge hosts on the server.

Science United really had a fit when doing this - even though I was using an old Rosetta account which wasnt created through Science United. It created and attached a second Rosetta project, resulting in 8 work units being terminated, with the second project then throwing warnings about being attached twice.

Anyway, I killed off Science United, detached and reattached from the project, and all is now fine.

As others have stated before, one can update the links to https by editing the XML files. If you're on Linux and have MySQL/MariaDB installed, there is a replace utility which you can use to update all XML files with a single command.

After stopping the BOINC service, in the data directory run:

boinc> replace "ttp://boinc.bakerlab" "ttps://boinc.bakerlab" -- *.xml
account_boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta.xml converted
all_projects_list.xml converted
client_state.xml converted
client_state_prev.xml converted
get_project_config.xml converted
global_prefs.xml converted
master_boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta.xml converted
sched_request_boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta.xml converted
statistics_boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta.xml converted

Restart the service, and it should be running as before.

Why do forums do stupid things like that? It has to be exactly as posted or it doesn't make sense. So if I put a link to a website which isn't on https yet, the forum would change it and make it so you can't click it. Brilliant.

It doesn't modify your links, but is always looking for BBCode tags in the text. So, when you try to write a post that mentions the prefix, it can get modified.

You can always post text enclosed in a PRE or a CODE tag.

Interesting, it didn't modify the word http, or the google links, inside or outside tags. But it modified bakerlab links, tagged or not.

The switch to https could have been done without user complications. Universe@home, collatz, and ralph@home all switched to https without my knowledge at some point in the past.

I made it so that any reference to this site switches the text to https://boinc.bakerlab.org.

The ca-bundle.crt file on disk was an older version. To make it work, it was replaced with the latest one from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/BOINC/boinc/master/curl/ca-bundle.crt . The check network connection message was misleading.

That ain't the latest, I'm running 7.16.5 (on my Android 7.0 phone), that let me type in the URL.

I have to do it a different route though - open the menu then go to projects. Then click the vertical column of dots on the top right. That has "add project by URL" in it.

Mind you, 7.4.53 on my Android 4.5 phone allows me to add by URL too, you just have to do it the way I stated above. It's a terrible old phone that I had to install a firewall on to prevent an advert full screen literally every 5 minutes. I think that blocked Google Play updating Boinc.
