This looks like an interesting starting point for targeting Coronavirus:

Thanks for sharing.
I did not read all, but as far as i know is it that what we are doing here. We try to find receptor-binding which prevent the virus from docking on human body cells.

Yeah, that's one of the main methods.

The reason this is exciting is because it provides the amino acid sequences for something that binds to a very similar target.

The race against coronavirus

https://sciencenode.org/feature/The%20race%20against%20coronavirus.php

A paper that article was derived from:

Early research on existing drug compounds via supercomputing could combat coronavirus

https://www.ornl.gov/news/early-research-existing-drug-compounds-supercomputing-could-combat-coronavirus

Neither said much about the limits on what types of compounds were tested. Many of the simulation programs don't allow any compounds that include any metal atoms, so they might not have tested any of the compound often used in zinc supplements.

It was mentioned that over 8000 compounds were tested, but I doubt that zinc ions would qualify.

Rosetta@home has some software that can do some work with zinc compounds. President Trump is claiming that zinc supplements will help, so it looks like a good time for Rosetta@home to test this idea, if the software is suitable.

The ZINC database (recursive acronym: ZINC is not commercial) is a curated collection of commercially available chemical compounds prepared especially for virtual screening.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZINC_database

Don't get confused, especially by Donald.

Are you implying that none of the compounds in the ZINC database contain any zinc atoms?

I already know not to trust anything Donald says without checking elsewhere, but I haven't found tools for reading what is in the ZINC database..

They may include zinc insofar as I know. I was just suggesting that someone might have confused the names.

Donald could have easily confused the ZINC database with zinc supplements, if he's even seen or heard it mentioned,

Is it possible to make synthetic COVID-19 antibodies? Why search for compounds that bind to receptors, and hope they neutralize the virus, when you already know that the antibodies have the desired effect?

Another thought that I had was, would it be possible to bind something to another area of the virus, that invokes an immune response. For example, bind something to the virus cell that looks like small pox or the measles? The immune system already knows what to do with cells like that. Perhaps there are easier binding sites than the spikes that help it to invade healthy cells.

[snip]

Partly because antibodies are much bigger than those compounds that bind to receptors, and are therefore much harder to make. However, there's a plan to try it, using plasma from those with very strong antibody responses. No guarantee that we can get ENOUGH of that plasma, though.

I'm trying to prioritize the running of covid tasks, so I want to identify them. Some are easy as they have covid in the name. In reading the forums I think "rb" tasks are also covid.

are there others??

fyi - I am running all the tasks I'm getting even the non-covid ones, I'm just running the covid ones first since I'm guessing these are more time sensitive and important at the moment.

With the current 3-day deadlines, I would not bother to try and "cherry pick" the order of processing.
The robetta tasks do not specify if they are COVID related or not.
All tasks are helping researchers better understand how proteins work, which helps them develop the tools that are needed for the future as well as the immediate COVID crisis.

I found another COVID-19 treatment that I haven't seen mentioned before. Not clear if it should be considered much more than one possibility to test.

What if any more covid projects are there yet? The only others I've seen for BOINC aren't ready yet - one is planned, and one has too little server capacity to want any new users.
