Sorry if this is commonly discussed here - I have searched the boards and do see some reports but no definitive answers. I've been running SETI for about 6 years but would rather do a protein folding project as I feel it is more applicable to actually helping us in the short term. I have about 8 computers of mine on Rosetta now, default settings, not requesting more work units then it would assign me... but I have started to receive "No work from this project." Two of the machines actually received this error for an hour after joining the project. Why is this? Is it something that should happen often? I'd really like to help Rosetta so if this is something which happens often, I guess the best fix would be to run another project with 1% priority and have it switch over as needed.

Thanks!

There are other threads, one with exactly the same name as yours, on this subject.

All of the projects go "off the air" from time to time. The whole point with BOINC is that you can join several project6s and thus keep your machines busy 100% of the time. As long as you are running a modern core client, you should be able to join another project and set it's resource share low as the newer core's will elevate the priority of a project if you are in danger of missing a deadline.

My evesham node runs Rosetta at 40%, Predictor at 40% and LHC at 20%. LHC is forever running out of work, it is the nature of the project, so that node crunches proteins most of the time. It doesn't run dry.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

Thanks. Is this because I have too many machines on under the same account?

No, this is no problem. I run more than 15 boxes under the same account

I am getting the same from Rosetta, but there is plunty of work according to the main page.

1st System is out of Rosetta, but happly crunching away at phase 5 of a Sulpher CPDN model and last SETI unit.

2nd system has 3 Rosetta units left, also putting time into phase 2 of a Slab CPDN model.

As CPDN and SETI build up there debt Rosetta will get more time when work can be downloaded.

I was able to get new work just about four hours ago, but now I'm seeing the same "No work from Project" message.

David Kim suggested that they were making changes to queueing and data management systems here.
Perhaps the disruption in sending out new work is from related activity.

Copied from Homepage Technical News -

December 12, 2005
Our work unit feeder is having a tough time keeping up with all the client requests for work. A short term fix (as has been done before), is to optimize the database tables. We will be doing this later today at 3pm and also backing up the database. As stated before, we are going to expand our servers soon to deal with this issue.

And now:

December 12, 2005
We are back online.

I'm now seeing downloads working again. As with all other things BOINC, patience is needed in great supply! Thanks to the project team for dealing with this so quickly!

Uploads are OK, but no downloads here yet. Times are East Coast US.

One of my three computers has received work. Don't try using Update to manually download. I tried and it said, "Not sending work - last RPC too recent: 211 sec".

<do as I say, not as I do...>

Yes... if it's saying "communication deferred", you have to wait for that to finish before it will allow more work. You can still report results within that window however.

Thanks, Bill. All three have now gotten more jobs and none ran out of work because I use "1 days" in my General Preferences. I learned something in November when I ran out of work. :-)

Is it saying "no work from project"??? That should be fixed now...

This problem will be intermittent until they can increase server capacity with the feeder. I have work right now, but it's definitely hit and miss.

HM, it seems to flow with some problems; my boxes need 2 or 3 touches within a short time (3 - 5 Minutes), then they get work.

No Work From Project. I re-booted (standard method of desperation when other things fail) but to no avail.
