I have noticed that Rosetta keeps sending out wu's that have come back with a client error like this one; https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/workunit.php?wuid=3799981 and this one https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/workunit.php?wuid=3728658 I understand the result generation process so please no comments on that. I am just pointing out that the devs should consider limiting the number of results that can be generated on a bad wu to 3 only. Live long and crunch. PPaul (S@H1 8888) Do as I say, not as I do! |

I am just pointing out that the devs should consider limiting the number of results that can be generated on a bad wu to 3 only. They have/will. (Don't know if the switch has been flipped yet.) 5 was suggested, Jack said they may go to 3 as that should be enough. Unfortunately, the "BOINC default" is 10, and until this happened, they just hadn't changed the default. Once the WU is sent out, that value is hard-coded in the WU itself, so the "bad batch" can't easily be stopped until it just flushes it's way through. (In case others don't understand the process.) |

I think it's possible. In S@H Beta Test Project many wrong WUs were aborted from project. Possible - yes. Easy - I don't know. Remember, the SETI folks have a lot of experience with just about every conceivable problem... |

...and is anyone home at UofW to do anything about it anyway?! OR even at SETI? Possibly not, until at least Monday. It's holiday break for U.S. colleges... |

...and is anyone home at UofW to do anything about it anyway?! One of us is home, but I'm unfortunately powerless to remove these jobs from the queue. About all I can do for the time being is try to answer people's questions and let you know that we have found the source of the problem. Getting the fix out to you is proving more difficult, especially with everybody else gone for the holidays. It's as frustrating for me as it is for you. |
