enable ntfs compression on slots directory

If you don't mind rather slow access to that directory.

If you want to get rid of some nasty settings regarding the python app, try to use an app_info.xml.

It's not even noticeable. Modern CPUs are easily capable of doing on the fly compression.

Editing posts to make your childish point is well.... childish.

So, what's wrong with being a prick? If someone's in my way on the road, I'll make life difficult for them.

Linux Fedora 36 distribution Boinc problems

I installed the latest Boinc release (7.20.2-1.fc36) for this Fedora and started getting errors.
I DOWNGRADED back to the previous Boinc release (7.16.11-6.fc35) and it seems to work fine again so far.

For the Climate Prediction project, I build a small test program that verified all the dynamic libraries and support programs were properly installed.

TOO bad the Rosetta developers cannot do something simple like that for Python environments they require.

Works fine in Windows, why is Linux so useless with libraries?

It is because of the security changes in BOINC 7.18.1 and later.
Some projects have adapted to it, but not the pythons.

I think you can use replacement systemd service file from https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=4971

sudo wget https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/download/boinc-client.service -O /etc/systemd/system/boinc-client.service

I think you can remove ExecStartPre=/bin/sh -c "/bin/chmod +x /sbin/create-boinc-cgroup && /sbin/create-boinc-cgroup" line
if you aren't going to run lhcathome theory.

After all these years I am giving up on RAH.
I just removed the project from my list.
To much bullshit and they can't even fix their own mistakes like what you just talked about.
I had no idea why I got booted, but since their code doesn't want to work with the updated boinc, well then I'm gone. Ive got booted a few other times.

Enough of this bull, i've got plenty of real projects to work on.
I think FAH does better work than RAH.
RAH is all about inhouse now and dumping trash out here.
Reminds me of TAC.

Good luck with all the nonsense guys, I've had enough.
I'm in plug and play mode, not fight with a stupid bot mode.

I have been in the same boat myself more than once.

If RAH annoys you too much, I highly recommend FAH. I have figured out its client by now, and it works reliably.
And I think their science is now better than anything else, considering that Rosetta is doing the good stuff in-house.

Have fun.

I use it sometimes, their client is abysmal, less reliable and less configurable than Boinc (you can't even set a slot to remember if it was running or not after restart!). And if you dare to suggest an improvement they tell you to get lost.

I am using their web based program. I never knew about the PC based program.
I'll have to look into that.
But yeah RAH, pfft....that's done for me after all these years.
Never figured they would shit on their volunteers like this.

The Windows version is easy to set up, though it will try to use both CPU and GPU by default.
You will have to remove one or the other type of slots if you don't want that one.

The Linux version is a bit different, in that you have to change one of the default options to get the GPU to run.
You remove the "gpu false" flag.

I'm also doing WCG, but that needs a lot of pushing at the moment to get work from their antique server. I have my machines doing a project update every 5 minutes, and when I see stuck downloads I manually retry them 10 times.

As for Folding, if you have more than one computer, you should try HFM. it's the same idea as Boinctasks, it lets you control all the computers from one window.

It may be easy to set up, but it's impossible to make it do what you want. When you reboot the computer for example, it forgets if it was running tasks or not, you can only set it to run or not run after startup. Also if you restart without pausing the tasks first, it often loses it's progress.
