Jim - see here: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=8452&postid=96958#96958

very easy to to, you don't even have to shut down BOINC for replacing the file in the BOINC folder.

Robert -- I tried to delete the certificates, after turning off BOINC, but was unsuccessful. Will waiting for BOINC people to address this issue
'be better? No uploading of wu's. It seems it's a BOINC problem, to fix, and not mine (one of 99%).

Thanks, for your efforts, however, on ca-bundle.crt

ps, I have a Dell E7240, with Windows 7. No problems, until now (Have run rosetta@home, since 2005.)

I finally downloaded the updated ca-bundle.crt file, renamed the old one, and then copied the updated one into the directory that held the old one. I don't know how to edit that file either.

I've asked the group that maintains BOINC to consider a new version of BOINC, with that file updated, to handle the users who can't deal with updating just the certificates file.

Erich -- Thanks, for the info., leading to OneDrive. I installed it, and am now waiting for the uploads It appears there are a lot, ahead of me.
Cheers, ps, I installed, w/o (trying) to delete the previous certificate dates. Assume that was ok.

This is a known issue that started yesterday. Please read this thread: Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates

you were not asked whether the exesting file with same name should be replaced? This normal Windiws procedure.
Did you get new Rosetta tasks downloaded okay?

The issue is being discussed in the BOINC forums: Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates.

And there’s a GitHub issue open against the client: Client: security certificate expired (#3789). That’s marked as Priority: Blocker, which should get the devs’ attention…

I'll re-allow more rosetta@home tasks. As for knowledge of normal Microsoft procedures, I don't feel I should have to know all that, to
run Baker Lab wu's. After all, "You don't have to be a Scientist to do Science". Well, I'm not a software/IT engineer, either. So, I rely on
the experts to make it a simple op. This problem should have never had to be brought to our attention. A fix, before a problem.

Your worst has 4x more memory than some of mine and the processors are too old too. I don't even think they support PAE and it's getting harder to find a Linux that will support them. I agree there's not enough memory for Rosetta as I've tried limiting the number of consecutive tasks and moving all the other params to free up what little ram they have.
Off to WCG with those old laptops and then eventually admit their just room heaters.

Cram as much RAM in the board as it will take (old memory is dirt cheap on Ebay), then run whatever it will run. I select different projects (or even sub-projects) depending on what the computer is capable of. At the moment in the piping hot weather in Scotland, I've got an air conditioner running! Probably competing against the computers. And no I can't open the windows, I have parrots flying around the house.

At the moment in the piping hot weather in Scotland,
?
25°c to 30°c is piping hot? I'd hate to be there when it's cold.

Min 21° to 31° max here which is only a few degrees above average for this time of year.

I have a conservatory, which means 20C outside makes 30C inside.

I'm uncomfortable above 25C when sat still in only shorts. More clothes or any moving around and I need it cooler. How on earth do you put up with 31C? That's only 6C under your body temperature, do you sweat continuously?

How do your computers stay cool? I find things like graphics cards overheat if the room gets to about 28C.

When i'm home the aircon is on, which keeps the temperature inside down to 27°. When i'm not home the temperature inside is generally 35° to 38°c (humidity can be as high as mid 90s). Water cooled CPU, large good airflow case with several large fans keeps the computer going even in those temperatures, And the video cards i buy always have 3 fans & large heatsinks.

I have cards with 3 fans, they still detest high temps. At 25C, they run at 70C with full fan speed. I don't like a chip over 70C, despite the manufacturer setting the default fan speed to maintain 80C. Over 70C smells bad. At your 38C, my cards would be 83C, which is way too hot.

And you must have powerful aircon to be able to cool it quickly when you get home. It takes mine 1 hour to change the house by 4C in either direction.

I've read that video cards that blow the heated air outside the case of the computer can be better in controlling GPU temperature than those with 3 fans that don't blow it out of the case.

The building I'm in has 5 powerful air conditioners, not under my control. My computer room also has a window air conditioner, under my control. I keep that one turned on for the full year, using a setting that keeps its fan running at all times but only cools when needed.

I used to prefer those, but they tend to have only a single fan, so don't cool that effectively. Although they don't heat the rest of the computer up, but that's not important if you have decent case fans, or in my case (the other kind of case!) I have them sat in the open on a bookshelf to run Boinc. Only 1 is inside a case, the one in my living room that I use as my main computer. Everything else is in the garage to keep the noise away from me! The garage gets rather hot as a result, so I leave the windows open. I've recently installed some wire mesh to prevent my neighbour's cat from entering and tampering with the computer equipment!

Why keep the fan running if it's not needed to cool the room? The unit I just bought does that for no reason. When the room has reached temperature, turn off and be quiet! I've since modified it to make it more sensible.

Erich -- A hat-tip to you (and, to Robert, for trying to help/enlighten me). With your suggestion,
have now uploaded all the outstanding wu's, with a dozen, downloaded.

As in my last previous entry, I still feel that the Boinc software gents
need to update Boinc, ASAP, because of Baker Lab's importance. Yes, I'm griping, but -- as a retired hardware engineer (mini-computers, to date myself) -- I know how fast the gents in the corner office want Eco's/Rev's generated. Out the door. . .

So, I still can get antsie, at times, when an important Boinc rev. is concerned.

Again, hat-tips to you/us all. Let's get a vaccine!
