Message 106545 - Posted: 16 Jul 2022, 10:50:30 UTC - in response to Message 106542.

And 2.5 hrs later it was done and no work available.
All my CPUs are running flat out on WCG. I've got loads of covid and rainfall, almost a 2 day queue on them all. It's just Androids and GPUs I can't get anything for.

UPDATE: Rainfall is coming in RIGHT NOW. Grab.

And they've changed 3 day to 6 day time limit.

Your stealing al the work again! lol

I have 7 computers to think of. It would be silicon cruelty to do otherwise. Would you have them doing endless Nbody tasks for Milkyway? They were getting bored!

My buffers are full, I'm no longer tickling the server.

Irritatingly some of the African Rainfall tasks have a very short deadline and my older machines can't do them in time. I've sent some back as aborted.

My GPUs want to play with WCG again. I was doing folding at home, but that's a horrid buggy program worse than boinc. They're mostly on Einstein just now, as they're changing over from Gamma to Radio Wave stuff for a new idea a PhD student came up with.

I've got gamma ray still running on GPU and the BRP4x64 on CPU.
I wonder if I will get any mircat or if that is to advanced for my 1080.

Same here. The BRP should be coming to AMD and Nvidia GPUs, but I haven't seen it./ I've asked here: https://einsteinathome.org/content/em-searches-brp-raidiopulsar-and-fgrp-gamma-ray-pulsar?page=1#comment-198840

What is mircat? Do you mean MeerKAT, this? https://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2018-07-13-meerkat-telescope-unveiled-south-africa

It was only covid that developed GPU work. And they only did that occasionally because the scientists couldn't keep up with the speed of the data coming back. I thought we were going to get a huge lump of GPU work to start with since they'd been deprived of results for 4 months, but the servers are having load problems. They were having difficulty yesterday sending out all the data for the African Rainfall Project on CPU. My computers were retrying about 7 times before getting a file.

I've been dry for a week now.
You would think they would have a better IT team.
At this rate its going to be end of the year before they are ready and even then I doubt it.
And I wish they had a way to show how much work they are generating or holding like here so I could see if they are dry or just having IT issues.
Have you seen any new posts from them for news?

I thought they had a better IT team. This seems to take forever to figure out what their problems are and how to fix them. How long has this invalid URL thing been going on? That should have been easy to fix.

Its been a week now since my last tasks. Seems like it is going to take them the rest of the year to get up and running again.
It's beyond a joke they can't get this to work. Total and utter incompetance. I doubt the "IT staff" have any IT experience at all, probably students.

I'm getting work every other day en masse and a trickle inbetween, but then I'm pestering the server with all 10 machines every 5 minutes. Fuck them. If they can't produce the work, I'm gonna keep asking for it.

What if they start giving priority for getting work to machines that have gone the longest since their last request?

They couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery, there's little chance of that. Anyway it's very easy to create a new account.

For such a "large" organization with all this research and funding, you think they could do better.
Or this is a low end project and they do the majority of the research in house on a super computer.

I asked a question on the news thread about when they expect to become stable and that they are using http vs https that BOINC manager has.

You can get banned from that forum just for a slight suggestion they're useless. For example the sentence "Surely you've got it working by now, how long can it take?" would get you a warning. Maybe if they took the admin wanker that bans folk and put him to work on the networking things would be running by now.

Probably by the end of summer, when they run out of work.

Sorry, I am sure WCG does not have a server status page.
It has been requested for years.

It has something to do with the software that IBM originally used. It is not the standard BOINC stuff.
They would have to convert over, which I think they are in no mood for at the moment.
