Several of your machines have only 8 GB memory. This isn't enough for 12 cores.

You need at least 1 GB/core to run Rosetta

I had noticed that the 12 core host was lagging, so I have ordered another 8gb stick for that one. That's the only 12 core machine. There's one other machine with 4 cores and 4gb (nominally) of memory, but that one can't be expanded; just have to live with it as it is.

Make sure Leave non-GPU.. is Not selected.
Works for me.

Heh. I had it on Not Selected, then Selected per the advice of someone else in another thread, now it is back to Not Selected again. Let's see if that helps.

There are lots of other Boinc Projects that have much smaller ram requirements and would love your help too!!

I'm sure that all of them would love my help, cuzz. But if there's one thing that you learn as an American living in the Philippines, it's that there is always a lot more love of help than there is of you.

I totally agree with that statement!! My though was about you being able to use all of your cpu cores at another project instead of just one or two here at Rosetta.

Rosetta is a nice little hobby for me right now. I'm learning new things and the subject matter is congruent with my son's PhD project, so there's that. At some point I suppose those benefits will plateau and, when it does, I will look for new roses to smell. Is there one project that stands out for you as a recommendation?

The new trRosetta should be even better.

I love that game too much. I was actually leading one of the beginner puzzles as of Friday.

Unfortunately, it won't run on my box at home and I have no idea why.

We are under lockdown here in Manila until the end of holy week, so maybe no more FoldIt for me until then.

Something i haven't seen in a long, long time- all my running Tasks are using over 1GB of RAM each.

Mine are almost 1 GB. But memory will be freed up soon. They are out of work.

wall time

I just wanted you to know that this is now become a treasured part of my vocabulary.

ME: blah blah blah in wall time.

COLLEAGUE: What's wall time?

ME: Oh (chuckles genially) just a term from this protein folding project that I'm involved with online.

COLLEAGUE: Do you get paid for that?
I guess it's to do with the computer being plugged into the wall, but I'm sure there must be a more descriptive term to use instead. In a game I play, they have "game time" and "real life time".

Here we go again. They come when they come. It's not broken, there's just nothing to do right now. No need to panic. Albatross!

More related to the quantity measured by a clock on the wall – in other words, one recording the passage of time in the conventional sense, and/or one independent of the computer performing the task being timed. Wikipedia calls it elapsed real time. It’s common jargon in simulation and software timing – though of course not everybody here works in those fields…

Doesn't work if you use a wristwatch and don't have a wall clock. Although I have 5 wall clocks in my house and never thought of that.

I wonder, will "bogeys at your 2 o'clock position" ever fade out due to the use of digital clocks? Or will we always have analogue ones?

What’s a wristwatch, Grandad? ;-)

Maybe more due to the removal of humans from air combat. Having simpler mechanisms, analogue clocks might make a comeback after the apocalypse…

I noticed it early this morning.
https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=6893&postid=100862#100862

But I have been watching the "Total queued jobs:" go down for several days.
Once it gets to less than a million, I consider it a warning that they are not topping it off, and I start moving to other projects.

Not to beat a dead horse, but we could plan better if they were to tell us something.

?
Just set your resource share preferences and let it do it's thing. If one project runs out of work, other projects will get more processing time. When the other project comes back up, it will get more time compared to the other projects until things have balanced out again.

For those of us just doing Rosetta, it's a chance to reduce our power bill, but it would be nice if the Project admins would let us know when we're likely to see new work.

I believe lots of the work comes through the Robetta server so it comes from outside the Bakerlab. I wouldn't have thought they will know what work is coming through that until it arrives.
