Would you believe I am watching this for the first time ever in full. Probably my favorite out of the six.

Which one is your favorite of the six??

The original. No competition. (Possibly because I first saw it the day of release, in 70mm Dolby, dead-center of theater near the front, while in high school, with a date... that I later married... Wow, that gives away my age, doesn't it?) They've gone downhill with each one from there. Ewoks? Jar-Jar? Give me a break.

Bill, I have to agree with you. Even tho' I wasn't with a date. <grin>
DEFINITELY the original. There was a spirit to it that went missing in the later movies.

I'm a fan of the original. Episodes 1-3 were crappy (in my not so humble opinion). Sure the technical effects were great, but who can beat the Death Star to this day?

No competition: The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the six: Hoth, Dagobah, Cloud city: the best + a great plot too. Although the pod racers in The Phantom Menace are pretty cool!

First is best.....the whole premise of the last movie was ridiculous. Here we are in the great future....light sabers etc, etc, and we have a woman dying giving birth!! What drivel....give me a break!!

Yeah, she was dying because she had just given up, was rather weak that.

I'm with Kathryn on this one.

New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are my two favorites, they're both good in their unique ways. New Hope is the action that got the whole thing going, while Empire concentrates far more on character development. I'll forgive Lucas the Ewoks, that was a budget decision. He wanted a planet of Wookies (which would have been way cool) but couldn't afford it. At least that's the rumor I heard.

But yeah, he COMPLETELY lost it with 1 thru 3, 1 especially. The number of things wrong with that movie is astounding.

Anakin was way too cute.
Jar-Jar should have been removed completely.
They should have found SOME other way to do what was done with the Midichlorians. Turning the force into something quantifiable and tangible just destroyed it.
Did they really need to make the pod race a complete rip off of the legendary chariot race from Ben Hur?

"Star Wars" is still my fav of the six. For it's time especially it was an astounding movie. In fact most of us watched it at least a dozen times when it first hit the theaters.

And while I am here posting away I too did like the Empire Strikes back. Especially the part where Luke finds out that Darth Vader is really his father. That was a shocker..! Liked all of the other originals too.

The new ones, well some of them I enjoyed. Episode 1 was not my fav, liked Episode 3 the best personally. Learned more about the Sith and how Vader became Vader, although I thought the story behind that was rather lame. Always imagined that Vader was the one who killed all the Jedi. And the mask was an attempt to conceal his identity when doing so, and prolong his life years later. Kind of like a mobile in suit life support system if you will which in all actuality was its purpose in the film :)

Only my opinions.

And if your reading this and didn't see 'em my apologies for the spoiler.

Me too.

And enhanced rather than spoilt by the Mad lampoon that had a big notice at the end of the canyon on the death star, "Press here to save universe".

On Star Wars Galaxies, we went out of our way to kill off all those Jar Jar critters around Theed. ;)

Episodes 1-3 may have given a very faint idea as to the back story of A New Hope.. but theres still a collection of things that drive me nuts. It's 20? years since the end of Episode 3 and episode 4 (A New Hope) - and yet Obi Wan seems to go from age 20 to 60. (How old was Luke in A New Hope?)

Obi Wan goes from being buddies with c3po and r2d2 in previous movies and suddenly doesn't recognize them in A New Hope.

I'll join the folks that thought A New Hope was best after watching it back in '78. Episodes 1-3 seem bogged down with "special effects" and so much less attention paid to the story.
