Client Detached??

One of my computers stopped showing any increase in credit last night, yet it continues to complete and upload results for about 4 tasks every 3 hrs. (it's a quad-core). Looking at 'Tasks for computer', there are over 120 tasks showing 'Client detached' at 17:28:48 UTC Sep 24th, yet it shows 34 new tasks sent to this computer since then. Would Boinc really continue to send new tasks to a computer that's detached? I have Boinc Manager 6.12.34 in this computer, and I can't even find a 'Detach' button like older versions of the manager had, so I wouldn't even know how to detach if I wanted to.
And, I wonder, where are all the credits 'going' (lost in cyberspace I guess??) as this computer continues to upload completed tasks since it was 'detached'? :(
Any ideas anyone?

Hi.

Are you using an Account manager, that could be causing your problems.

Are you using an Account manager, that could be causing your problems.



No, at least I don't think so. On each of my (3) computers, I have only installed the Boinc Manager from the R@H website homepage (under 'Join Rosetta@home').

At 24 Sep 2011 17:28:48 UTC your computer suffered an error and it could be in your Windows 'event log'. This error lasted until 24 Sep 2011 17:28:49 UTC at which time is got reconnected and everything was fine again. So for one minute there your pc was saying it was disconnected from Boinc. I was looking but can't find in my 6.12.26 where it talks about the 'network reminder interval' for communications, I always turned that off, it was in the older clients though.

Somewhere between BM 6:10:58 and BM 6:12:33 witch i have both running here,
the `Detach` project button has been renamed `Remove` project,
I dont know why though i presume the boinc dev`s felt it was worth it.

I decided last night to suspend the project, as this computer has spent a full day (since the 'detachment') of crunching and uploading results for 30 or more tasks, without receiving any credit for the work done.

I have had a problem with a hardware conflict (I think) as a result of using 2 mismatched graphics cards (to drive 4 monitors), and I'm waiting for a new graphics card to arrive, so I'll have a matched pair. Then, when I get this computer working without any problems (locking up), I guess the thing to do is to remove all traces of Boinc this way, and then re-install Boinc and try again.

Of course, I'm open to other suggestions! ;)

Not sure if that is applicable to you, but I was installing BOINC so didn't get as far as having tasks in the first place. It meant that BOINC couldn't communicate with the client until I installed it without that option checked during install, so I guess that might cause a detached error.

Rom's suggestion at the end is to use BOINC .38 - I presume that is 6.12.38 which doesn't appear to be available yet... Or install without using the sandbox option I guess.

Thanks Danny, though I seem to have a different problem; where as my computer runs the tasks normally, and then Boinc Manager uploads the finished tasks, and then downloads new tasks in their place. The problem is that the finished tasks that are uploaded just seem to dissapear; they don't show up in my Tasks for computer, and I don't get any credit for them. (And I don't understand why my Boinc Manager will download new tasks if my computer is really 'detached'?).

My new graphics card (which is Nvidia btw) is due to arrive Thursday, so then I'll have a matching pair, and (hopefully) stop the lock-ups/freezes I've had. The computer won't freeze with only one card, but I need 2 cards and 4 monitors for the purpose I use this computer for (digital multitrack recording and music production).

I think the 'detachment' probably happened from some error (as Mikey suggested) after or during a freeze, and the necessary 'hard reboot', so I'm waiting 'till I get my new card (and get my computer working without freezing) before I make any further changes with Boinc Manager.

Update:
Got my new graphics card, and with a matched pair now, the computer is working fine; no more freeze-ups (which I think may have caused the 'client detached' error in the first place).

So, what I did to get 're-attached' is this (in case anyone else has this problem sometime):
First, I clcked the 'Remove' button (same as 'Detach'; thanks clive_G1FYE!) under the 'Projects' tab to truly detach my computer, as it still had the R@H project in the Boinc Manager, and was still able to crunch tasks and upload results, and download new tasks; but without receiving any credit for the work done, as it was only the Boinc servers that considered my computer to be 'detached'.

Then, with my computer now truly detached (the BM was now empty of any project / tasks), I uninstalled BM using Windows Uninstall.

Then I deleted the remaining 'BOINC' folder; under C:/ProgramData/BOINC (in Windows 7).

Then I installed a 'fresh' BM from the R@H homepage, added the R@H project, and now everything is working good; I'm re-attached and getting credit for it. :D

This is a troublesome, low-scoring, now non-scoring project. I have something else running now. There are ready-to-report tasks for this, but it is suspended now.

A fix is something different. Look at the dates on these posts.
