Hi.

Your Systems seem to be on a go slow today, i've got tasks that have been sitting pending for around an hour.

Not much work either.

Agreed. It's difficult to get work and the validator seems to be on strike.

Hi

1 x Ubuntu 64 bit 10.04 4GB Phenom II Dual core - Boinc 6.10.17
1 x Ubuntu 64 bit 10.10 4GB Quad core - Boinc 6.10.58

I run Rosetta because I believe in its value - I don't get 'under the hood' to find out error logs etc so if info is needed please ask and tell me where.

I have been crunching 24/7without a problem on either macchine.

However, in the last week I am plagued with computation errors; I would sday 90%+ on both machines.

Are there bad units being put out?

It is very frustrating to suddenly start getting these errors. Both computers are new.

Am I wasting my time with Rosetta or can anybody please shed light on the problem? As I said, you will need to tell me what/where the details are to help track the problem.

Many thanks,
David

Scrolling through your many pages of tasks the first error I found was this one; you can see that your wingman completed it without difficulty. Clicking on the details link lets us see the sdterr out:

<message>
WU download error: couldn't get input files:
<file_xfer_error>
<file_name>run_boinc_csr251_relax_full_correct.zip</file_name>
<error_code>-119</error_code>
<error_message>MD5 check failed</error_message>
</file_xfer_error>

Perhaps you should check if your firewall is blocking or quarantining Rosetta files.

Best,
Snags

Yup, same here. R@H's home page shows 0 queued jobs and server status pretends all servers are running fine...

Hi Snagletooth

I have never installed a firewall in Ubuntu - I go through a router which protects me.

As I say, everything was fine (therefore port access in the router was setup ok) until suddenly.

And since 6am this morning on this machine, 2 tasks completed ok - the next 9 exited with errors after a few minutes (1hr 09, 30m, 19m, 07m, 17m, 15m, 01m, 0.01m, 0.02m respectively).

It seems odd that 2 computers suddenly became error prone at the same time and and in the same approximate quantity.

I feel very despondent about this - research into cancer is very personal to me and I thought I was contributing, albeit in a small way.

Please help as I am not technical in sorting out why this is being wasted. I'm afraid your paste of the error is double-dutch to me.

Hi David

Seeing that Rosetta is out of work, you may wish to try Help Conquer Cancer at World Community Grid. If the tasks run successfully there, I would suggest that the problem you had is merely coincidental. I run 64-bit Ubuntu and have no problems running BOINC.

Hi Warped

All BAM! gets is "Creating account at World Community Grid -> No response from project".

superlinkattechnion has no tasks.

Makes one feel surplus to requirements :-)

The server at BAM! is having problems. I suggest you attach using the standard BOINC Manager, Advanced View. In my Ubuntu version of BOINC Manager (6.10.17) the attach to project menu item is in Tools.

I'm ruuning POEM@home and Einstein@home as well as Milkyway@home to keep my system occupied and support both science and medicine. Milkyway has some big stuff that uses all 4 cores at times. Poem has small tasks that zip through your system pretty quick. Einstein is more of standard project. The search for Gravitational waves is very interesting.

Oh yeah, once again someone said awhile back that they would be monitoring the boards for discussions like this one. Once again the system fails and no one see's or says anything about it.

Come on guys! Communication!! Have you not heard of that word?
I ripped you guys once about this, seems I will have to politely do it again.

Well, I still have a few WUs left... like 24hrs worth of work... if this isn't fixed then I'll have to switch to POEM@home in the meantime.

Same problem here.
Looking under the 'Messages' tab in Boinc Manager, I see LOTS of 'No work sent' messages, starting on July 26, with only a few occasional new WU's being downloaded since then.
