I have a laptop running 100% rosetta under WinXP SP3. I have disabled as much services and apps as possible, updated all drivers, updated windows, all graphics are off etc. I was wonderig if it were possible to automatically set the WUs to a higher priority (higher than low that is). Is this possible? Also, what else could I do to make this laptop crunch faster? (if there is any).

Yes but it only works PER UNIT and everytime you start a new unit you have to do it again. Go into Task Manager and click on the processes tab, then do a right click on the Boinc workunit and under Set Priority you can change it to a higher priority. You can also change the processor affinity, meaning make it crunch on this cpu or that one but that only helps if you are using HT too. In the end it is much more trouble than it is worth, but if you want to speed up a unit or two it will work. BUT you can't then be using the pc for something else too!!

While you can increase the priority of the running thread(s) it won't do any good as the other tasks will still need to be processed and so will still take some CPU time away from the 100% available, whatever the priority.

As Transient says, the only thing you can do that will make a noticeable difference is to make the CPU run faster by overclocking or upgrading it, unless you're low on RAM. Faster RAM might help but I would think it would be marginal unless your CPU has minimal cache.

Right, having priority to use the empty 1st class line at the airport only helps when there are lines (i.e. other work) everywhere else.

Does htt refer to Hyper-Threading Technology?

It's an under performer, a Core Duo T2050 (1.6GHz). Don't know it's PLL so I can't overclock it, plus I think Toshiba locks it's FSB so you can't even software-overclock it. Oh well. I was thinking of loading Dotsch/UX and running it off RAM, but I doubt it'll make a difference, I'll save me the trouble when I get a dead hard drive. Temperature wise, it doesn't even hit 60C under full load, which is why I was so eager to overclock it, having such great success on my "flag-ship" laptop. ASUS > Toshiba.

@ stewjack, only the latest Pentium 4 and the new Intel chips with the nehalem architecture (i7 and i5) have hyper threading. The "htt" that show sin boinc probably refers to something else. You can check by going to task manager (Right click on taskbar -> task manager -> Performance).

Ummm.....any processor by Intel that says "Extreme Edition" has HT built in too. I have a P4 sitting on the shelf that is a 3.?ghzEE and is 5 years old now and it is an HT cpu. I can't find a motherboard for it, it requires a 'model B', I think. I haven't looked for several years now, the original mb popped a capacitor and I replaced the whole mb and cpu at the time. I got a quad core cpu and mb for the price I paid for just the cpu. According to this HT came out in 2002: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-threading

Nope, I have an old Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800. No hyper-threadíng, just the 4 'real' cores. AFAIK none of the Core 2 processors used a hyper-threading technology.

Well, it has HTT becuase it's a Pentium 4 like I mentioned :D
Core Duo and Core 2 Duo extreme or not do not have HTT.
