isn't it this way that from 1 pc you could login into the boinc of other pc's so you could check them. but the errors are just, that you dont have enaugh memory, my pc is on some wu's using 1,4 GB swap... so allocate some more, and there wouldn't be that much problems left.

Message 49454 - Posted: 6 Dec 2007, 20:32:25 UTC

After browsing these posts I think I understand why my computer has been so SLOW lately! Are there any plans to mitigate this??

Also, I'm running two tasks at the moment, and one of them is using 62MB of memory and the other 227MB! Between Windows Task Manager and BOINC there isn't enough shared information to tell me which is the hog:

w099_1_homologymodel_strictosidine_synthase_2352_21372_0
cfr_d0_2353_11473_0_0

They're both running under 5.85. Right now things aren't too bad but I only have 1 GB memory on my system and two tasks each taking a quarter of a GB would really hit me hard! They started about the same time and both have about 1.5 - 1.75 hours to go; but then I'm going to start on some BOINC_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX tasks - what kind of impact should I expect them to have?

Really, for most of the time I've been running Rosetta it hasn't been this bad...

im now running BOINC_ABINITIO_VFSCORE3
taking me 860 Mb swap space and 118Mb normal memory

not a real problem for me, can handle op to 1600mb normal memory and max 1,7 Gb of swap with a peak of 1,1 Gb for today. for me this goes well, but for old 512 mb systems this is a real killer.

Have you given up on 5.85? I've just been supplied with a 5.82 unit after having no problems with 5.85!!!

I doubt 5.85 is abandoned. I have a five day work queue and it is a mixture of 5.82 and 5.85 :)

It will be easier for people to help if your computers are not hidden.

Can you set your pagefile to <system managed> size?

All of my Windows computers have that setting and I have not had any memory errors with 5.85

Does anyone know what the line:sine_cos_range ERROR 2.1119119 is outside of [-1,+1] sin and cos value legal range.
means? Does not seem to be a major problem as task reported as 'success' and credit was granted? Trying to stay on the right side of the law!

Speaking purely from the standpoint of a (former) math teacher...

Sine and Cosine are periodic functions whose values always fall between -1 and +1 inclusive.

As to the way that mathematical fact is used in the Rosetta code, I have no clue.

I've got the same error as Micheal many times on this one, see below.

depends on the validator state. did you get credit for it?
if answer to previous question is yes, then the task isn't failing.
if answer to previous question is no!, then the task is failing.

Got 'normal' credits for both tasks, just curious as to what the line sin_cos_range....... means. In both instances I picked it up through BOINC LOGX and it appears also in TASKS 'Task ID'. Can see that both tasks make Rosie happy.

Can we please scrap version 5.85 now? I call its current swap file usage horrendous.

This job is using just under 1GB virtual memory.

I also know that Rosetta does not even require the virtual memory. I have seven Linux systems running those jobs that run with zero swap.

I'm sorry about this but until something is done about 5.85 I'm going to have to suspend R@H and not allow any more tasks. My computer keeps running into problems with this app. I'll keep checking back every now and then to see when a fix has happened

1b3aA_BOINC_ABINITIO_VFSCORE3-10--1b3aA-vf__2351_55_0 and 1aiu__BOINC_ABINITIO_VFSCORE3-6--1aiu_-vf__2351_101_0 ran normally. other than a .3 credit to my advantage and a 4.56 defict on the other nothing interesting happened on either one.

perhaps the fragment 1ail is having troubles in the VF_SCORES3 work?

Your computer does not meet the minimum memory requirements for Rosetta@home.
You will need to install more memory or find a project with less memory requirements.

the VM useage is ridiculous - you're starting to lose people with lots of computers that have been running the project for a long time. Can we have some feedback on what's happening with this issue pls?
