I running non-stop 24/7 full throttle on all the settings and want even more power. Any optimized versions/customized versions or speed tweaks for my system? Would x64 vista help any? Would setting larger work packets increase the RAC?

HP Pavilion dv6646
AMD Turion 64 x2 1.9 ghz
32 bit Vista Home Premium
Nvidia Geforce Go 7150m
God only knows the mobo brand...Quanta?

I have cleaned the fonts, turned off aero, disabled all un needed services, set processor affinity so 1 runs on each core isolated. All of this and installing Hare gave me about 15% faster processing.

Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing that will increase your RAC is a faster processor.

Well the extra ram wouldn't really help.. I already have 2 gigs and only 500 mb gets used by BOINC. If I did have to get another processor, I would hold out for the tri-core from AMD. Who really needs quad core in the non-DC world?

Without the 64bit version of Vista, you may have trouble with the OS recognising more then 3GB memory. Several MoBo's manufacturers boards will take the memory sticks, but warn against using them all.

Who really needs a quad core?? It reminds me of the "Who will ever use more than 640K of RAM?" question :-)

I went with the Q6600 because of price. The chip is sub $300 and it is very powerful. Plenty of room to over clock and the new stepping (G0) reduces the power by about 15W.

After running this CPU at 3.2GHz for months, I can tell you it was a good deal for me.

Thanks for crunching Rosetta and anything you do to crunch more work units is appreciated.
Thx!

Paul
