Please join our Sideshow to the Kings International Gauntlet 2007. Team England were too late to enter the Gauntlet and have decided to support the Gauntlet by having a SETI Sideshow. All teams are welcome to join us. The Team England SETI Sideshow will run in parallel to the Gauntlet and will start on Sunday the 4th of November 2007 at 20:00 hrs GMT+1 and will end at Sunday the 18th of November 2007 at 20:00 hr GMT+1. At the beginning of each day, starting on 4th November, we and any other team who wishes to join the Sideshow, will publish a snapshot of the boincstats at 20:00, an example below; It will be a simple matter of taking away the previous days total from the latest to determine how many credits the team has added in the past day, and to keep a cumulative total with an overall total at the end of the Sideshow on 18th November. There are no restrictions of how many or can crunch for SETI during the Sideshow, and even new joiners during the Sideshow can contribute. Please join us and support Team England for the two week period if you wish. Attach to http://setiathome.berkeley.edu in the Boinc manager. If we can't be in the gauntlet, then let's support it by crunching as much as we can in the Sideshow. For other teams, all you need to do to enter is to say that your team is in, and to publish a snapshot of your boincstats each day at the agreed time and keep your daily, cumulative and final credit scores. It's all for a bit of fun and to give SETI a bit of a boost. Oh, and may the best team win ;) A message from my penguin |

Err shouldn't that be Rosetta Gauntlet, seen as you're trying to pilfer people away from here :( Seti already has far more crunching power than any other projects. And the combined power of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th projects (WCG, R@H, E@H, CPDN) ... Maybe you should be cheering these projects on... shame on England. Team mauisun.org |

I prefer to solve the the folding riddle first then look for ET. It's possible that a Rosetta version in the future will be able to cure the common cold. Just think that every ailment that now afflicts mankind may one day have a cure. I'm not sure that ET's would want anything to do with us given we are such a violent species. Just some randoms thoughts. |

Is there a forum to debate this? |

Cafe - with the other team rah-rah stuff. No idea why anyone would want to pimp another projects so blatantly. Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :) "You can't fix stupid" (Ron White) |

Thank you very much for your interest. If anyone does organize a Gauntlet for Rosetta, I'm sure that Team England will be organizing a Sideshow for Rosetta in no time. Maybe you'd like to organize something yourself even... A message from my penguin |

We're working out ways to track our progress. Here's a couple of graphs Team England might be using. A message from my penguin |

indeed, this is not SETI this is Roestta, so why the BEEP does SETI always show up here? |

I am very confused by the intolerance of a lot of comunity members here. In my opinion the permanent and repeating basing of SETI and other scientifical interesting projects is very intolerant. For the peoples which rember the DC history, BOINC is the consequent improvement of the SETI classic project. And without SETI and BOINC there would no BOINC Project called Rosetta. I think BOINC is a multi project framework, and we should handle other (BOINC) projects with respect. But here a lot of guys bashing at other projects (see the POEM thread for example). So I am thinking now to quit or lower my Rosetta resource share till this ignorance and intorlerance would be quit. |

In my opinion the permanent and repeating basing of SETI and other scientifical interesting projects is very intolerant. for me the point is that SETI has FAR more computer power than Rosetta already. I honestly believe if people understood the potential that rosetta has then they'd flock here but instead are leeching much-needed computer power for a project that already has more than it needs... |

It not the ignorance (not sure how it ignorant) or intolerance for the other projects. It's the coming over here to grab users for a project that already has the power of the rest of the top five projects put together. Of all the project seti is the lowest on the scale of needing new members, seti needs money. There are talks about other projects without a problem, but just do not come here to grab the members from a project that has far far less power at it's hands. If you want to grab members, do it in the at Seti forum, at the BOINC forums or other places. Also all team threads (which this is, an attempt to grab Team England members) should be in the Cafe. In reality, who cares where BOINC came from... it a Berkerley funded project which has had input by lots of people who have no accociation to Seti@home. (you could also say we owe it to United Devices if you're talking history) Team mauisun.org |

I just wanted to point out that this thread was not deleted, nor even moved to the Cafe. So I would have to say that reflects a degree of tolerance on the part of the project. Also, whether or not the public participants in a project are intollerant or ignorant should not effect your decision on whether you wish to help Dr. Baker's team solve the protein structure prediction problem. Because there really isn't anything Dr. Baker's team can do about the actions of it's participants. They are just as entitled to express their opinion that SETI does NOT need computing resources, as others are to express the opposite view. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

For me are the "good vibration", tolerance and respect in the community also a very important aspect as the science. But if there is no tolerance and respect for other projects and peoples, I have to ask if I would to continue to support such a project. Such subliminal bashing of other projects I only seen at two projects. At all the other BOINC project it would be a lot of more peacefull and a lot of more tolerant. The bashers has not realized, that they scare away the confident multi project BOINC partipicants. |

Right. "Junk science" projects like SETI just pull CPUs away from real science projects. CPU was a good experiment in distributed computing with a cutesy screensaver, and nothing more. Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Temporary ban only - so need to work harder :) "You can't fix stupid" (Ron White) |
