On 10/3/07 I posted a problem with the wu validation in 2 places Msg47376
and Msg3638
but no Rosetta official has bothered to address them. (See originals below) Today I see that my RAC’s has gone down again because of the same problem with more of my wu’s. They have validated but are not showing up on my bionic stats. On the 7th I had 1323 credit validate but 0 showed up in my bionic status.

I waited till today to see if they would be in my stats for Oct 8th but only 242 of the credits showed up. I am still short 1100 credit
Date Oct 7 Oct 8 Total
My rah wu’s total 1323 1499 2822
Bionic total 0 1741 1741
Recent missing credits 1081

I do not want to have to watch my information like this and more Importantly I Should not Feel Ignored like this. I feel that the project has gotten to lager to actually do any of its promises. The ‘Where we are and where we are going’ science tread has nothing but questions and pleas to update it. The Rosetta@home Active WorkUnit(s) Log is a 19 months old. That is over a year and a half!

The only other project I belong to is way larger with many more client types etc. Folding@Home. They have none of these issues likes Rosetta. The active wu’s log are up to date. You can find out to any level about the science and there is even a daily news sticky, and yes they even fix problems credit the same day.

The above actions at Folding@Home makes me feel important not ignored. I need to feel that way here too. Why would I want to stay if you make me feel that my contribution is not worth an answer or 2?

My PC is set to do 24 hr WU's so I only check once a day. Yesterday I had 3 validated WU's and 1 did not show up in my bionicstats. I think it is the 5.69 rosetta result that is missing becuase the 2 5.80 rosetta equal my bionicstats from yesterday of 857 (402+457) for the 2 5.80 wu's, With my validated 5.69 wu for 404 my bionicstat should have been 1261 (404+402+457)
109142983
108996510
108932819
109142983 404 5.69
108996510 457 5.80
108932819 402 5.80

I do not know if this post is needed becuase I have a seperate Number crunching post about it validating but not showing up on bonicstats with the 2 other rosetta wu's that my pc completed yesterday. These were 5.80 wu's.
Since it was a 5.69 wu maybe you need to look at it.

If need to look at my full post here is the link.

So you are asking the Rosetta Project Team to fix your figures shown in BOINC stats?

On 10/3/07 I posted a problem with the wu validation in 2 places Msg47376
and Msg3638
but no Rosetta official has bothered to address them. (See originals below) Today I see that my RAC’s has gone down again because of the same problem with more of my wu’s. They have validated but are not showing up on my bionic stats. On the 7th I had 1323 credit validate but 0 showed up in my bionic status.

I'm not sure I'm understanding you correctly, so just to make sure I'll handle AFAIK all the various credit-ways:

1; Users own stats, by going to https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/home.php and logging-in if not already logged-in. Should always have up-to-date stats, if not there is definitely something wrong somewhere.

2; If you clicks on someone else's name, or haven't logged in, or looks on Rosetta@homes Top teams/computers/users, this info is normally not up-to-date, since to lower load on db-server the web-server will cache web-pages for some time. Not sure for Rosetta@home, but atleast last generated shows bottom of page.

3; In BOINC-client. Since credit only happens after result validated, the client-credit won't be updated before next time it connects to server. Especially if you're running with 24-hour-wu-preference, it can be over 24 hours back-logged.

4; If you looks on one of the 3rd. party BOINC stats-sites, like BoincStats, BoincSynergy and so on. These stats will never be up-to-date, for one thing a project will only update the stats a couple times per day, for some only once per day. Also, whatever stats-site you're looking on can have their own problems, so they've not updated the stats even new stats is available.
Due to all this, these stats can be over 24 hours back-logged.

So, depending on there you checked your stats, it's possible it's not really a problem, appart for stats being back-logged.

As for Folding@Home, maybe I'm biased, but appart for their "exotic" platforms like PS3 and GPU, their cpu-client has always in my opinion been a downgrade from the Genome@home-client...

No I am asking the Rosetta Project Team to not make us ask for the same thing multiple times.
This make us feel unwanted.

The Rosetta Project Team promised to update both the ‘Where we are going’ and the Rosetta@home Active WorkUnit(s) Log” in the science forum but no one has. We are all writing about that it must be some government secret that you can not tell us about.

Dr. Baker's Rosetta@home journal was updated yesterday. I'd have liked to have heard a little more detail but still it's a lot better than nothing.

Hi Jmarks

Isn't your initial post a BOINCStats issue rather than a rosetta one? or do you think the credits are missing from the rosetta log files?

On Oct 3rd my RAC's went down even though I had 1200 validated credits that day.

There was a problem because when the 2nd validator was fired up the credits that it validated weren't included in the RACs. The totals worked properly though AFAIK. If you want to search for it it was a post by KEL.

Here's the link, but it is from Sept 29. I wonder how long that second validator was running?

Perhaps you're looking in the wrong places for approval. Remember these are volunteer projects; you do not always get the recognition you might want or expect in any volunteer activity; volunteering should by nature be altruistic, not for personal gain, although that isn't always the case. Of course you want to feel that the effort you put in has value, and it does; but I think you'd rather look back and say you helped a good science cause than stressed over a few credits...

I understand that 1100 missing credits is in its way significant, but it's what, 1 day's worth on a q6600 - nothing major. And they usually turn up sooner or later, as it seems reading this thread.

Further, when you're doing real science, you inevitably lose work and effort, through hardware failure, errors, etc; but for these projects, we only ever see a credit total growing steadily upward, never falling back, as can happen in real life, when it's more a case of 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

I'm sure the folks running this project have a long list of tasks to do; getting to forum posts isn't always going to be at the top; there would be a greater fuss if the servers fell over, if they weren't planning future work, etc - it may be a simple matter of the needs of the many than the few.
If worst comes to worst, you could always PM a mod if it was an urgent problem.

I'm glad you're on board doing Rosetta WUs; I'm glad there are thousands of others too. Just remember that the project staff are human too, and we're all in this together.

Also - it's BOINC, not bionic... while we're on the subject of slip-ups.

You are singling out 1 thing and saying I should not feel ignored. There where 2 additional project administrated posts that are ignored. I would not be complaining if it was just about my original post.

Here are the words used in the project administrated threads. We where promised information 4 months ago and 6 months the WU’s post.

Sorry, I just got back from a several week family vacation a few hours ago. Will give you an
update by early next week (I need to catch up on the current status of the projects as well!).

If it is that they are busy with other more important things says so don't leave it hag for 4 to 6 months.

I have 100 posts that are not all question. I try to answer whenever I feel I can help.

OK, I didn't realise it was also the status thread; that should be kept relatively up to date; I agree with you there. My apologies.
