After finishing and returning some jobs I get the following message : "Client error/The result was sent to a client and an error occurred" That's nice to know, but rather incomplete. Anybody had the same problem or knows a probable cause and/or solution ? You can claim credits but don't get them, so if you get a lot of those errors your puter is running without getting anything done (and no credits). |

After finishing and returning some jobs I get the following message : "Client error/The result was sent to a client and an error occurred" Why are you posting this in the Rosetta Science forum instead of the Number Crunching or Q&A forum? |

After finishing and returning some jobs I get the following message : "Client error/The result was sent to a client and an error occurred" Well, I might be mistaken, but I was under the impression I could place questions running R@H here. If you can place questions like these https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=339 over here why not a question about client errors. Something may be wrong uploading. But perhaps you could explain why it should be placed in another forum. However it is surtainly not necessary. Just an answer to my question will be sufficient. |

I do wish people would stop telling people were to post so what if it is in the wrong place or not, this board will turn out like a bitching SETI board at this rate. Just help the guy with an answer to his problem if anyone has one Join us in Chat (see the forum) Click the Sig Join UBT |

After finishing and returning some jobs I get the following message : "Client error/The result was sent to a client and an error occurred" Where are you seeing this error? Is this in the messages tab? The result page on the server? If it is on the message tab, it is difficult to analyze possible problems without the actual log. If on the result page, point us to one by adding a link ... |

https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/results.php?userid=9875&offset=320 Which is no access ... You need to give us the URL to the actual result ... like: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=319508 |

Another one https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=1662714 Well, there is good news and bad. The good news is that the work unit is not bad. The bad news is that you seem to have been hit with an "exit code -1073741819" error. The good news is that I have an explanation. The bad news is that this is likely to be a random and persistant problem on your computer, and possbiblly across projects. Read the write up in the Wiki and let me know if need more help. The easiest step is to make sure that your computer is up-to-date with all of the latest software drivers for your hardware. Be advised that this error can be the result of the operation of ANOTHER program running on your computer. Just as a side note, one of my computers occassionally has a "lock-up" which when I follow the links to Microsoft's web site tells me it is a device driver. Since it does not tell me which one, well, I have not a chance to track down what is really causing the problem. You may (or may not) know that you can have litterally a hundred or so "device drivers" running on your system. Many we "know" about, like for our graphics cards. But, we also have them for parts on the motherboard, including some for thing we are not using. Yet the device driver is loaded anyway. When you have some problems and call MS technical support you will find that they may ask you to disable many of the running processes on your system. It turns out that there is like only two that are absolutely needed. But, because no on knows what all of the process names are for, we are not able to make informed decisions on which ones we could dispense with... So, there it is ... an "819" error ... |

Essentially the "819" error is "outside" of BOINC, it is just the program that get "clobberred". The source of the problem goes all the way back to the very early days of Windows NT ... the original design was very good, which is not surprising as Microsoft got a lot of experience on how not to do an advanced OS with OS/2. Unfortunately, the good OS model they chose was based on what is called a micro-kernel ... with this model there is very good protection of the core of the OS and it is very tolerant of software errors. However, it "appears" to run slower as there are some costs to the use of the protection (look up "Ring 0" if you can find a good reference on the hardware model of the x86 architecture) where only the kernel runs in Ring 0 of the system. To "improve" performance, device drivers which should NOT run in Ring 0 were allowed to, well, required to, be run in RIng 0. Now, failures in that code can bring down unrelated portions of the system. The isolation is gone. This is one of the reasons that other OS, like OS-X are, or can be, more stable. They use more of the isolation allowed to prevent one process from affecting another. And with today's hardware there is little reason not to use the protection. ==== Edit Here is a decent clip with an explanation: "The key point to understanding how a computer works is the concept of abstraction, that there are a multitude of layers of functionality that are built upon each other like bricks in a tower. Semiconductors are etched and treated (or "doped") to form circuits that redirect electrons in specific patterns. These circuits are packaged as ASIC's and Microprocessors (called "chips") and interconnected by buses and traces on a PCB (called a motherboard) in order to implement machine code. Then other PCB's which are designed to comply to some physical interface standard (eg. ATA, AGP, PCI) are inserted into the motherboard, where the Microprocessor can interact with them. These boards are managed by sets of machine code called device drivers (eg. VXD, WDM, SYS) which run in a specially privileged execution mode (e.g. kernel mode, ring 0) designed to allow the OS to manage these. Then as other blocks of machine code called applications and processes run on your system and call the OS API in order to use the system devices, the OS takes turns processing each requests to share devices. When multiple computers are connected across large networks to share processing and data, centralized software components on a server (e.g. COM, RPC, Quake 3) process remote requests. In this way, each layer provides a service to the layer above and below it to make the amazing machine we call the 'Personal Computer'" -Anonymous Intel Engineer There is also a good page from Microsoft's site |

And what's the matter with this one ? https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=2376292 Another 819 : Why ? |

As I said, the "819" type errors are not necessarily related to BOINC of the Science Application. They can be caused by other parts of your system. If you rummmage the Wiki there are explanations and links out that explain it better ... |
