I don't understand how some people reach credits in the millions, when it took me 5 months to reach 18,000

And then there's the heavy hitters that are IT pros who have countless computers at work running boinc with their name on the account. Geez. Sorta makes me sick. But then again, we need the great people like that who bring serious firepower to boinc. Boinc output in teraflops would be far less without the heavy hitters!

Why is it that my credit granted always is a lot less than claimed?

You just joined 7/22/07. It takes at least a month to get equal credits.

you can always buy credits off ebay and cheat (not a very respectable way to get the credits)

That statement is incorrect. The question was asked about credits... not about RAC. Your response more applied to RAC which is an average of the credit over time. A new participant basically has a number zeros back from before the joined thrown in to their recent average credit.

I believe ramprat was reviewing their results list and noted that granted credit is consistently less then claimed credit.

That is correct, in the result section it will read for example 44.96 and granted 40.96 and sometimes in the 30s'
Also I am trying to get the banner with my results, and I am unable to figure out how.

Run a Athlon dual 3800+ an honest 24/7 for nearly two years and you will be close to 400,000 if that helps. Mine has never been turned off.

Why do computers have OFF buttons. I have been wondering that since I started with classic seti in 2001.

You start by spending a LOT of retirement funds to always have the newest, fastest, and hopefully more than 1 computer. (I have 4 at the moment, see sig for 2)

e6600 quad @ 2.5ghz
2418 floating point
5227 integer

e6750 dual @ 3.71ghz
3598 floating point
7918 integer

don't forget to set aside some of the retirement funds for the electric company or your private alternative energy source.
