When I look at my stats, I find three pages of results, of which 3 are actual finished files and the rest are all listed as "Client Error".

Can anyone explain in simple English, just what is happening here? Everything seems OK at this end. The WUs seem to be finishing and uploading normally, but they show up as client error with, of course, no credit.

Any explanation would be appreciated.

I don't have an answer, but you're showing zero seconds per WU, so it's erroring off as soon as it's started. Here is the error text from one of your results:

<core_client_version>4.19</core_client_version> <message>Incorrect function. (0x1) - exit code 1 (0x1) </message> <active_task_state>1</active_task_state> <signal>0</signal> <stderr_txt> </stderr_txt>

I would definitely suspend Rosetta until you get some kind of answer/fix...

This error is solved by upgrading your client. I would say at least 4.72, but I know David Kim recommends upgrading to the offical 5.2.X version.

I had 4 linux computers running 4.19 that errored constantly until I
upgraded to 5.2.x. Since then I have only had one client error in several
weeks.

So, I've upgraded to 5.2.7 and now I can't connect to anything BOINC. When I try to add a project, it keeps looking for proxy servers and I'm connected direct. I can't get past the proxy server request screen.

Edited to add: This is the first time I've had any problem with BOINC and I'm running 6 clients, none of which I can connect to right now.

OK, OK, I forgot to delete the old version first. When I deleted both versions and reinstalled 5.2.7, it ran just the way it was supposed to and I am back on with all six, running happily. We'll see if it gets rid of the original problem. I certainly hope so, after all that.

Thanks for all the help.

I've upgraded from 5.2.2 to 5.2.6 and now 5.2.7 since I attached and I think I manage to finish only 4 or 5 WUs at most all others ended in "Computation error".
I can't understand what's wrong........

You are getting:

***UNHANDLED EXCEPTION**** Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) at address 0x7C91103C write attempt to address 0x013EE240 1: 11/12/05 17:32:34

Have you read the Wiki on this error? This is coming from the Rosetta application, _not_ the BOINC client or daemon, so upgrading from 5.x to another 5.x won't help. I would say the most common cause for this is a hardware problem, high temps, overclocking, etc. - are you successfully returning results for other projects? If Rosetta is the only one showing errors, then you should stop BOINC entirely (file/exit, then verify with Task Manager that NO "boinc" or "rosetta" processes are running) and look in the Program Files/BOINC/Projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta folder for the file rosetta_4.78_windows_intelx86.exe and delete it. Rosetta should automatically download another copy, probably at this point 4.79; it's possible the one you have was corrupted during download. If Rosetta does not download another, or if this doesn't solve the problem, then I would "reset" the project - if that doesn't help, I would "detach" and then re-attach to the project. Note that any of these methods can lose WUs already in your queue, but you're returning them with errors anyway...

Thank you! I reset the project and we'll see know what happens next. Downloading 4.79 instead of the 4.78 I had. Thank you again! :-)

Could you zip up and mail me the TXT (and OLD if any) files in the BOINC directory?

p.d.buck@comcast.net

Maybe you have a good example I can use in the Wiki ...

I've got a lot of good results in my results page, but one was Client Error?

https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/workunit.php?wuid=1550707

I've checked the work unit and I'm not the only one who had the error on that particular unit. It's the only work unit I ever had an error on, regardless of the project. Maybe this one is a bad WU?

Getting more errors again here too. e.g. this one

Of course, could be hardware problems but compare these reported crashed WUs:

me:
1n0u__abrelaxmode_random_length20_jitter02_omega_sim_aneal_04716_1
anders n:
1n0u__abrelaxmode_random_length20_jitter02_omega_sim_aneal_18684_0
atotos:
1hz6A_abrelaxmode_random_length20_jitter02_omega_sim_aneal_29927_0

Paul - what type were yours?

EDIT: add ANOTHER ONE, on another one of my PC's. This one had a similar WU name:
1n0u__abrelaxmode_random_length20_jitter02_omega_sim_aneal_16520_0

I am starting to think we have a bad batch of work units.

I'm getting the same responses....everyone of my WU's has suffered the same fate.

So I've decided to detach from Rosetta for the time being.

I've had no more errors since those two I reported - returned 29 successful results. May still have been a bad batch, but I only use a small work cache so that was probably all I got from that batch.

Many of your errors do look to be a different kind though:
"CreateProcess() failed - The system cannot find the file specified. (0x2)"

As an aside, I note that your machine has less than the recommended minimum RAM to run Rosetta, although that may not be causing the errors.
