p.s. After posting the above message, I tried to log out from my account. But the Rosetta webserver responded: "Unable to handle request" !!

Folks at Rosetta have been reading the message boards -- they are (I believe) aware there is a problem. Would be nice if there was a 'news flash' on the home page, but aside from that, I would guess they are looking into the problem -- which for Rosetta is specific to downloads.

If it makes one feel better, SETI is going thru problems today as well -- it appears they did a reset of all their servers (aside from the web page server) in the past 10 minutes in an effort to resolve problems they are seeing.

Same here, 3 computers doing nothing.

Why is there no email address for this kind of stuff?

this is not the first time this year the servers have gone to sleep or are handicapped, wasn't it just last month something like this happened?

probably forgot to feed the mice that spin the wheels to keep the electricity running.

There's an issue with the external interface for the download servers. I sent a message out to our sys admin. This, indeed, has happened before and we'll look into what's causing the instability. In the mean time, boinc.bakerlab.org will handle the downloads.

Well duh, you'd think that after the first 3 posts we'd all know that this happens to everybody, so why all those "same here, same here, same here" posts??

...Rating -8?? LOL! Looks like I hit the nail on the head. :D

Yes, noone like being called a sheep. People aren't particularly fond of hearing "duh" in response to their concerns either.

My apologies to those that now appear to be Nidhogg's sheep. I moved all the posts I could find about the server being down all together in to this one thread. In the process, the ordering of messages gets lost. I mean I might take 3 messages from one thread and move them here and they will intersperse with the others in message ID (i.e. time) order, and so it becomes unclear that the 3 messages were related directly to each other.

So often times, there was a thread with two or three msgs, starting with "I can't get work"... "Me too"... "My error message says unable to contact server"... I found numerous threads like that, on various boards, and I just moved 'em all here.

Think of this this way...."atleast someone read your post"...LOL It's better than being ignored.
Can't be personal grudge since it was your first post to the boards. I guess Ewe message wasn't popular in this grouping... Ewe....get it???? LOL

I had to work hard for that one.

come to think of it, Mod should keep this forum open so every time we have a failure of some sorts in communications we can post it here so the system people have some where to see when this problem crops up.

on the same note, i think all the mac problems should be moved to their own forum so we can get back to the smaller occasional problems users get on their systems.

Happy(sort of)to see that others are having the same problem. I though that it was a problem with my computers. Will run maleriacontrol until problem is fixed.

Now that it is becoming clear that the Mac issues may not be specific to a given release of Rosetta... I agree with you on that one. But will wait to see if the Mac issues are nailed in the next release (testing underway on Ralph presently). Hoping we won't be seeing such posts for much longer and then it will be a moot point.

So you are having an UPload problem. I don't have any completed tasks handy to try this my self. Are others now have problems returning their completed tasks?

Folks,

The webservers are back online - but, as you might imagine, there something of a backlog of download requests. The servers are throwing out data as fast as they can. It might take a while, but we should catch up here in a few hours...
