I'll also ask that the new application is compressed, even if it's just in your download directory, just remember to always tell us about a new version on the front page, that would help me anyway.

As for a proxy Smoothwall express 2.0 should do it, if you have an old machine (the HDD will be wiped so save everything that you may need).
I use it and am very happy with this open source programme, I had to do a bit of fiddeling with it (long story about Telstra ISDN modem that I won't bore you with), most people don't have any troubles with it , and it has a web proxy cache (you can set the parameters, size and so forth), Firewall, DHCP, VPN, mutilple zones, logs, etc... .
It's 45.56MB, then you need to update, so it's not just for a play if your on dial-up (which I am)

You do need NIC's to use it with your LAN, and a hub.

Edit: changed will to should, because my (smoothwall) HDD is too small for me to of tried this out, ie. I can't guarantee it will work

After closing project Find-a-Drug it would be desirable to find the useful project with the client - server organization of issue of tasks, unfortunately such at present is not present. And only it is necessary to organize a reception of tasks by one machine in a network (server), other machines in that case do not require the Internet (receive tasks from the local server) And the second that is necessary, it is regular import - export of tasks.
After realization of such opportunities the project will reduce the consumed traffic and will acquire huge amount of computer powers

Does the rosetta project folder contain any files that are unique to the compter they're on, or are they all in the BOINC folder?

I want to make sure that I can copy files from one machine's Rosetta folder to another machine without causing any problems.

You can copy the larger files no problems, I wouldn't bother with the smaller files that are not zipped up (gzipped ;-)) since they are most likely the random number specific files (and they are only small)

The only problem you have it the files are not sticky, so one that PDB target with specific has been done it get deleted (even if it downloads it again in a day or two) Something that annoyed me for a long time.

I have many many month experience of this. I created a central folder where I would store new files. All the basic ones that get downloaded before the tasks/jobs come down. and then you have the two linked files for each target and often also come in pairs ( aa1n0u_03_05.400_v1_3.gz and aa1n0u_09_05.400_v1_3.gz ) any starting boinc_ as well but these are the reduced size files already.
Don't know about the newer named ones though.
Then as I manual triggered uplad and download over the dialup I could transfer teh files as needed to the computers.
It's quite time consuming though.

It is removed once it has been used. (otherwise it is just left there)
The reason for this is BOINC does not know it is there (it is not listed in the Rosetta downloaded files xml file)
But once it is downloaded (already being there it skips the download as you know) it will remove it once it has finished with it.


It would be nice if Rosetta@Home gave the option to leave these files sticky for dial-up users or bandwidth capped / pay per MB users. Until the project decides they are no longer needed say after 6months of them never been used by the project.
Add it as a tick box in Rosetta preferences.
Of course it would use more drive space but most peopel can afford that.

Advance downloads of the executable
I'm posting something to the homepage, and some instructions over on this thread.
Please post there if this helps/hurts! This is about a six hour advance notice, which isn't much time; if we get a good response, we can try to increase the advance notice on the next release.

I just wanted to remind people about Boinc's anonymous platform setting.

If the app_info.xml file is present it will stop boinc from automatically downloading a project client.

This might be what some of you dailup users are looking for now...
