Message 27238 - Posted: 18 Sep 2006, 2:39:07 UTC - in response to Message 27214.

I agree, but what I am trying to get at was.....

1) The initial C was done by Seti users that were cross project.

2) In doing so THEY made the points worthless.

3) That in seeing others using it and with no admonishment from the project, that users felt it necessary to go that way to compete evenly. ( Even if it is outside the spirit, it made little odds as the points were already skewed)

The teams that were/are here have now have mostly gone back to stock client even in other projects. The problem has been rectified here, the past offences are just that.

I strongly disagree with labelling the use of an optimized client as an "offence". It is no such thing.

It was and is allowed to generate optimized BOINC core clients, and optimized project applications (for those that are open source). It is a basic flaw of the BOINC platform that using an optimized BOINC client on a multi-project PC
causes issues with credit awards. However, since it IS NOT BANNED, it not an "offence" to use them.

Again, that is a false perception and label that caused all the cheating accusations here.

If it's of any interest:
I think the first time I used an optimized fileset was when BOINC 5.2.13 was out.
Maybe April or May if I remember correctly..
Up until that time I'd used the stock boinc manager.

I've used optimized clients for as long as they have been available.

I won't run any project without optimized clients. If I cant get the most work out of my machines I'll shut them off.

That's right, I did.

That's optimised applications your talking about. I would appreciate them as well but I won't make them a must if the projects goal is something I want to do.

"Optimized" clients don't do anything in regard of "work out of my box", they simply don't crunch anything but a benchmark every 5 days.

Calling someone a fascist is insulting also in this part of the world, I'm coming from (Denmark), and keep on bashing Germans on the past is unnecessary.

Insulting is a difficult one, if someone called my a facist I would not be insulted but assume that was how I was behaving, nothing wrong with that.

you can call a group of people anarcistic, liberal, democratic, foolocratic (not sure on actual correct istic word for that), or whatever and your going to insult some people. (especially if they don't thin kthey are behaving in that way.)

This definition of "fascist" (lower case) is probably the most pertinent to it's use in this forum, and this sentence extracted from the linked page is most appropriate:
Its use as an epithet generally serves to imply that the supposed "fascist" is unreasonably authoritarian.

The use of "Fascist" (capitalized) is probably a mistake, since it relates to political movements.

Fuzzy no one was bashing Germans...a certain type of behaviour is deemed "F" cos we`re not allowed to say it, please note.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with a political party or the flamin war. It is an ordinary everday word for someone authoratively dictatorial.

This is deja vu aint it.....Best I not say that either, it`s foreign and I can`t be completely sure of the context it might be taken in.
Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-)

Ok, but that was what I percieved, if I was wrong, my bad.

Yes, this board is an international board with participants from all over the world, and as I said, in my part of it, fascism is used to descibe the regimes of Stalin and Mussolini, and also Hitler. And we have still people here, who are old enough to have lived under WW2. So being called a fascist is really an insult here.

I think I've just invoked Godwin's Law, haven't I? ;-D

That's correct for the term "Fascist", but not for the generic term "fascist".

We have the luxury of seeing it in print, where it is more clear than the spoken word in this case.

Nahhhh Fuzzy that was done last night amongst the deleted I expect.

The word is so often bandied about it is a natural part of conversation in the UK, you will hear it in any demonstration about Police etc., You will hear it about employers. Here in the UK we don`t live in the 1940`s anymore, we`ve moved on, realised the people in these Countries now had nothing to do with any of it and are innocent. It is of course a great delight to the average England supporter to go abroad and still find sensitivity but they don`t understand why, nor do they care, it`s merely a wind up.

I`ve been called one many times in the past in service, it only hurts if it fits. I suppose it`s all part of change and growth, I find it offensive for young Afro-English to copy their American counterparts in calling their girlfriends their ***** (female dog), it grates a little but it`s their language of today, I`m yesterday....though I have been known to say it in jest and get a clout which is very real ! ;-)

I don`t want young or any Germans feeling they are to blame for the past or having to carry the weight of what was essentially a few peoples fault and ideology. It`s one of the things I think John Cleese tried to get across in his " Don`t mention the War" sketch some twenty years ago, we laugh at it, we don`t forget the terrible events but we don`t apportion blame on todays people and it`s laughable to us that the stigma is still carried.

If we felt any different the UK wouldn`t be full of BMW`s and Toyota`s.

( I`m not sure this covers it all but hope goes some way to explain there is a cultural difference apparently between the UK and mainland Europe)
