We can talk about the weather, but not much beyond that without being censored.

It's becoming clear to me that it is time to move this forum to USENET. Neutral ground and no censoring of any kind.

comp.distributed seems to be pretty empty, and appropriately named.

Opinions?

USENET can be censored just as much as here, just depends who's running it.

Personally just improved forum software along with co-operation from the members and the moderators (at least until feelings settle).

comp.distributed is an unmoderated group. It would take an RFD and a vote to change that.

comp.distributed looks good. I show about 42 posts with most having little or nothing to do with the subject.

Right. I scanned the RFD and vote from back in Feb 2002. It was created as a forum for DC. Looking at the archives on google groups, it had a pretty good participation back in the day. But I guess the volume migrated to these project-specific web forums. That leaves it unused and a very good place to move this to, if people are interested in doing so.

The standard of moderation here now is absolutely disgusting. There is no possibility of having any kind of discussion at all without things being censored. Threads are impossible to understand, as everything keeps being moved around or deleted. Every single post that I have made in the last few days has been deleted (or is it hidden ?). There was nothing offensive in any of them and they were all on topic in the context that they were posted. One Mod even said I had'nt made a post that had been hidden and I must have made a mistake, but had previously described its contents to me.

In my opinion, the Mods are causing more trouble here than anyone else right now and need moderated themselves.

LOL !

The latest reason in the email sent to me for my latest post being deleted by MOD.DE was. "this should go to our moderator email." It seems any excuse to delete certain peoples posts will do if they cannot find any real reasons to delete it.

Back on 08/18, Dr Baker posted on the XS board that he was glad there were so many moderator volunteers. Based on where he posted it, he clearly thought it would help retain the XS team. Turns out, those moderators are doing the exact opposite of his intentions. My guess is that he doesn't know, and at this point, I'm not sure he ever really cared.

There's multiple sides to Whl's viewpoints. Does anyone remember why the current batch of Moderators was brought in? Because of problems over allegations of cheating by one group and the accused attacking the accusers. We get tasked to keep the peace and keep the one side from using the term "cheat" while the accused belittle the accusers by calling them "zero RACers." The accused start claiming other terms are replacing the banned term "cheat." The fighting going on prior to the new batch of Moderators being brought in caused multiple threads to be deleted.

Breathe in. Breathe out. What conclusion can you draw from this fact? That pointless fighting is no way to keep posts visible.

Last night, a thread got out of control, and I deleted or edited all the inflamatory remarks. The thread flared up again, and I deleted the whole thread. I moved the first few messages that weren't inflamatory to another thread. That thread also got out of control with the fighting. Since yesterday, I have been doing a lot of editing out of inflamatory remarks, editing out baiting of the other side, and editing out inflamatory remarks in the quoted text in otherwise acceptable messages.

I created a couple of threads to discuss the issues that kept causing these battles, and stated that the posters keep on topic, be polite, be constructive. Incredibly few were able to follow those directions. Two miserable single topic threads, and you couldn't post anywhere else?

Since there's a group that only wants to come here and fight (as evidenced by your posts the last few days), please find another place to post the fighting messages. I personally would love not to have to edit out any slang for "cheat", "zeroRACer", or other insults that kept flying around. There is no need for any of those comments at present.

I feel like I'm in a room of 5 year olds and being asked to enforce the 1 toy per kid rule they've had for months. Screaming, yelling, fighting and name calling is going on.

Take a break. Calm down. And stop fighting. And if you can't stop fighting, then do it elsewhere or in private.

I thought the 'c...' word and 'zR...' words were banned.... I guess it doesn't apply to everyone.

It appears the only posts that will be here eventually will have mod.xxx in the signature, and peace will have been achieved. However, the forum will be moot at that point.

Yes, I just said so a few posts before yours.
What conclusion can you draw from this fact?

That the moderators don't understand the difference between moderate and censor. Sometimes it's better to let people speak their minds. Censoring only makes things worse in the long run.
Two miserable single topic threads, and you couldn't post anywhere else?

Are you saying that, if we picked/created different threads in this forum, the censorship would not have happened? I'm all for that.

I posted 3 different posts here in this thread tonight trying to put a point across and they were all deleted by MOD.Sense within seconds/minutes of posting. It seems no matter where or what I post it is "off topic". I wonder how long this one will last ? (They were on topic BTW and there was nothing obscene etc in the content.)

May I ask Zombie67, as you were the author who started this thread, do you object to this post being in your thread and do you consider it to be off topic ? This thread is about censoring after all and I cant for the life of me see how my other posts in this thread were off topic.

BTW, all of my deleted/hidden posts can be seen at the URL below. Look at the ones from 3 days ago from the time of this post up until now. Those are the ones I have been complaining about recently. That is when the Mods seemed to start going censor mad.

Here they are

P.S. Only some of them are marked off topic and one is marked as flamebait by the Mods ? There are a few others there that are hidden but are not marked at all. I was given no reason at all for those being hidden. They just were, with no explanation or email to tell me why.

Nope. Post as you see fit.

My perspective: I've been participating in forums on the internet (specifically USENET) since ~1989. Unless it is one of the very few moderated groups, the only control/moderation is self inflicted. Everyone posts whatever they like. If you don't like something, then don't read it. Hit the "next" button or use a kill-file to automatically ignore specific subjects or authors. It's raw, and frankly, refreshing. It can be a pain sometimes, but you also get so much more out of it. Also, you get to chose from many different clients, so navigation and interaction can be a much more convenient and enjoyable experience than this html junk (my opinion, of course).

Thank you zombie67.

I am familiar with usenet myself as well. I often have a wee check at Steve Gibsons GRC groups and a few others. And thank you again.

Here you go Zombie. Its done by Mousie and co @ the DCzone. Not all Project are supported yet, but a lot are. I had to enter the Find-a-Drug bit myself.
