First, I am hoping that this is not a correct viewpoint.

I believe that XS has in the past moved as a team from one project to another.

The possibility is they are now in the process of moving, and are working to cement their first place for longer. They have come up with a new credit method (no problem here) that will grant lower credit for those using the "optimized" clients (no problem here either, the credit was fluffed). However, they are insisting that the credit not be backdated because that would be changing the rules after the fact. This set taken as a whole could be interpreted badly. Otherwise, why the insistence on no backdating?

As I have noted elsewhere, there were actually two distinct sets of rules regarding credit in place on this project, the more restrictive only applied to those crunching other BOINC projects.

You will get flamed for that ;)

But I really like to know why some people so vehemently resist the implementation of a level playingfield for the past. Why don't they want to see what they really did, and not just some fluffed numbers.

edit:
At least they could insist on fluffing everybodies numbers, thus tripling or quadrupling mine (stock under Linux;)

We had already said all that.

A said, the project doesn't wanrt to loose CPU power because the need to catch some goals. They have to navigate through all the existing icebergs.
The opti client were used for months without any complaint. From their point of view why change, during this period, something which runs smoothly.

Why don't you give it up guys. There is a firm standpoint from dr Baker saying there will be NO backdating. Not your favorite standpoint, but a standpoint nonetheless.

Opening several very similar topics about this in which you can agree won't change that, and will only clutter the board.

C`mon John there`s one already going on this. This will get silly again and people have had enough.

You cannot also brand whole teams, that isn`t fair unless you have evidence that every single cruncher on that team acts and feels the way you say.
Not all Czech`s bounce but I`d like to try with Barbar ;-)

Make no mistake This IS the TEDDIES TEAM.

I strongly am sure there a a few people who have made up their minds to kill the Rosetta-project. (yes I'm looking to John and Saenger)
You have 3 options:
1/ If you really want to kill Rosetta, just say it
2/ If you care about Rosetta, then start crunching. You only have 2500à6000 points. Even with a non-optimized client on a average computer, you'll get that score on less than a day or two.
3/ If you don't care about Rosetta, then move a long, go back to Seti, or any other DC project

I think those speculations are not helpful. It might be interpreted as accusation etc. and create further tension. I agree with Los Alcoholicos that opening several threads with similar thoughts isn't helpful either.

Most agree, that no backdating isn't the ideal solution and has disadvantages, however in the end backdating was dismissed. You might call that a Lex XS or what you like and your arguments are valid but such are those from Dr. Baker and carl and others.

edit: May I suggest you edit your post yourself in order to avoid a new flamewar?

John, as a BOINC guy couldn't you discuss that in direct with Baker or Kim? Because here I think we have enough for the moment.

I'm locking this thread with my trusty 'this thread is locked' message.

I think everyone agrees this topic is flamebait. If you still have strong opinions after DB posting there would not be backdating, please use the new project contact email I set up.

Future emails on this thread will be hidden.
