I am new. So bear with me.
I have a couple of Duel Proc Server Class machines I installed boinc/rosetta on. They are both only using 25% of their processor. I ran a CPU benchmark, and one of them downloaded more work, and it is running 50% on the processor. They are 3.4Ghz Xeon with 3+GB of RAM.

My question is this. How do I am them do more work? They are servers, I would like them to do 100%. The old SETI, I would just start 4 clients. Is there any setting to make them work harder?

Thanks..

Since Xeon's are hythreaded, maxing out 1 'cpu' only shows up as 25% in your system. If you're running at 50%, then you're maxing out two of the logical processors. In actuality, you're using almost all of your cpu resources. While hyperthreading makes your system look like a quad, it still is a 2 cpu system. I'd suggest leaving your settings how they are now. . running 4 WU's at once will give you 100% CPU, but you may run into memory bandwidth problems and actually do less work overall.

If you would like to give it a shot and see how it performs, go to your account settings (off the main page on the left hand side), and change your preferences to allow up to 4 cpus. After a couple hours the changes should take effect.

Cheers,
Ethan

good to have you join us John!

as Ethan says, Task Manager may show 50% utilisation, but in reality on a hyperthreaded CPU such as yours, it's running pretty much flat out.

Got it on the hyperthreading VS Preferences. Makes perfect sense.
I will leave it set to two.

Thanks for the help on such a "newbie" issue.
