There is much concern about the new Brazilian, South African and the even newer Indian double-mutation variants. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-brazil-variant-idUKKBN2C11XX https://www.bbc.com/news/health-55534727 https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/india-has-a-double-mutant-covid-variant-should-we-worry/articleshow/82120030.cms Is Rosetta working on these, or are the present protein inhibitors thought to be adequate? |

Is Rosetta working on these, or are the present protein inhibitors thought to be adequate? No answers here... Admins and researchers don't read the forum, i think |

Admins and researchers don't read the forum, i thinkYes, I am prepared for that. I just thought I should open the topic for discussion, though there may not be much to discuss. I actually have confidence that they will work on it if they need to. But the outlook is not looking good in many countries, and they may need to. If we see some work units with large memory requirements, that could be a clue for new types of work. |

There is much concern about the new Brazilian, South African and the even newer Indian double-mutation variants. I believe the answer is a sort of yes, with this article showing one of the ways forward Science: Vaccines that can protect against many coronaviruses could prevent another pandemic Also The dream vaccine |

Thank you. The funding agencies are no longer dismissing the threat of coronaviruses, are they? And a "pancoronavirus" vaccine would be great. I think the original Rosetta work was more in the area of antivirals, which are still not available in any significant form. Though Dr. Baker and colleagues discussed work on vaccines too in a video from last year, which are related to some degree. My guess is that they don't see enough difference in the new variants to warrant more work yet, but I expect they are keeping track of it. It would be nice if they gave us an overview of where they stand though. |

Thank you. The funding agencies are no longer dismissing the threat of coronaviruses, are they? It certainly would be great. At the IPD website, they certainly talk about anti-virals, vaccines & diagnostics here I've just located the twitter thread I was trying to find earlier, which talks about successes against variants you were originally asking about via Veesler Labs linking to their PDF at bioRxiv here. I think this one answers your original question better than my first attempt. Still lots going on. |

At the IPD website, they certainly talk about anti-virals, vaccines & diagnostics here Thanks. That is as much as I could hope for. They are certainly working on the variants. The Scientific American article cited on the IPD website looks like a good read too. I think we are just entering Round 2 of this one, with much more to come. |

At the IPD website, they certainly talk about anti-virals, vaccines & diagnostics here We might've been able to guess the answer to your question was yes, but it's good to find these pieces that confirm it is. Neil King of King Labs and David Veesler of Veesler Labs are part of IPD and David Baker is listed as co-author, so I think we can now say some of the work we're getting is still on SARS-CoV2 - a question that some have previously asked and it's been difficult to point at anything specifically when it's not mentioned explicitly in the task names. As someone pointed out the other day, the problematic "pre_helical_bundles" tasks are CV19-related - possibly why they're so demanding of RAM & Disk space |

S0MEONE is working on the variants, even if not here. This one is for a cure, not a vaccine: Revealed: How a single pill home cure for Covid could be available this year https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/revealed-home-cure-covid-could-available-year/ |

S0MEONE is working on the variants, even if not here. This one is for a cure, not a vaccine:Roche is also working on a pill. They just need to get it tested. https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/roche-trial-covid-19-pill-delayed-uk-vaccine-rollout-intervened-2021-04-21/ So the anti-virals are making great progress at last. We need them. |
