Wayno

WCG has not ended just down to move total operations to a new home.

There is down time for a few months while they install their gear at the new place and get things running again. Just wait for the news via email or twitter when they are back up.

Message 105387 - Posted: 11 Mar 2022, 4:02:59 UTC - in response to Message 105384.

I was doing SiDock, which is based at the Russian Academy of Science. I stopped when Russia invaded Ukraine. My little way of protesting.

I know the scientists at SiDock are not responsible for the actions of their ruler and may even be opposed to them. SiDock may not even care whether I participate or not, but there's little else I can do. I feel they should share a little of the pain, although it is nothing compared to the pain Ukrainians are feeling.
You make me sick. You stop work for a SLOVENIAN SCIENCE group because a RUSSIAN POLITICIAN does something you don't like. Grow up.

This war amuses me. Russia blows stuff up, and the rest of the world says "you're really really naughty and I won't trade with you any more". That is why he will win. He still knows how to fight.

He will fight just like a certain ex president. In fact that person probably got a few tips from Vlad.
Just keep shelling the hell out of the people and they will give in.
Worked in other countries they were in, will work again.
Cut them off financially and they can't fix or make anything anymore.
Out of missiles and bullets and maybe it stops.
Except Russia is a huge country with lots of resources, they can sustain themselves. By stopping trade we hurt ourselves more. They used to ship out a tonne of gas. Look at the fuel prices rising in the whole world....

Your nuts, you protest a science project that has nothing to do with the current leader of their country which I am sure they would like to get rid of, so your going to hurt them in your protest? How self centered is that?
Be a human and put your computer back on the project and help the scientists achieve their goal before something happens to them in the name of politics or retaliation.

How can this take a few months? Do they have like one guy working there?!

You are amused by attacks on innocent civilians, the destruction of whole cities and the deaths of thousands of people, including children, for no reason at all? And I make YOU sick?

According to the BOINC projects page, Si-Dock is based at Russian Academy of Science and is not Slovenian. At one time, it had a cooperative arrangement with Finland, but that appears to have changed. If it were Slovenian or Finnish, I would still participate in it.
Russia blows stuff up, and the rest of the world says "you're really really naughty and I won't trade with you any more"
Putin is not "just blowing stuff up." He's blowing men, women and children up. He did more than something I don't like. He bombed a maternity hospital with patients in it. That's more than just "naughty." It's a war crime. And if my futile protest makes you sick, too bad.

I won't apologize, even if you think I am one of those politically minded fools. I prefer to think of myself as one of those compassion-minded fools.

[Then you better join up with some other projects to keep your system busy because 4.2 tasks are not that common these days.

You might try this one: https://gene.disi.unitn.it/test/ or this one https://www.sidock.si/sidock/ to keep your system busy until WCG comes back or until this project produces some more 4.2 work.

Your childish editing of my post only serves to make you look stupid. Put back in the next sentence which was what was amusing me.

According to the BOINC projects page, Si-Dock is based at Russian Academy of Science and is not Slovenian. At one time, it had a cooperative arrangement with Finland, but that appears to have changed. If it were Slovenian or Finnish, I would still participate in it.
Not what I'd heard by conversing in their forum. Two Slovenian scientists and two Russian scientists in a Slovenian place.

Putin is not "just blowing stuff up." He's blowing men, women and children up. He did more than something I don't like. He bombed a maternity hospital with patients in it. That's more than just "naughty." It's a war crime. And if my futile protest makes you sick by, too bad.
He's waging a proper war, while the west "fights" with sanctions.

I won't apologize, even if you think I am one of those politically minded fools. I prefer to think of myself as one of those compassion-minded fools.
Your feelings on the war are nothing to do with the scientists. So these scientists are the ones bombing the Ukraine are they?

Wow, I can't be bothered fixing your attempt at quoting.

Gene at home most certainly is accepting new accounts, I just created one to test it. You did read the instructions on the webpage right?

... The "box" on the left of the post still appears though.

Where "troll" = "person whose opinion differs to yours". You're pathetic.

No new work in quite some time.... are we in one of the down times?

Unless you have virtualization enabled and virtual box installed and your account is set to accept virtualization work, then you will have long dry spells once the normal tasks are completed.

Come over to number crunching if you wish to discuss the further (top thread [problems and technical issues] ) about getting work.

The "Allow Python Work" option needs to be publicized in some fashion or else it should be moved into the project options section, where it belongs. I haven't had any significant work in weeks because of this, perhaps someone can have the server send a message to all clients or something?

I can't even switch mine back on once it's banned, since I use Gridcoin and don't have access to server options.

Anyone running python jobs on Linux?
Currently without work due to WCG moving and I more or less stopped using Rosetta for some time due to no work every now and then. But now back and figured I'd try these now jobs out.
I setup virtualbox and work is coming in and grabbing a pretty decent amount of memory ;-) All seems fine... However, after some time (it may even succeed in finishing some jobs) it ends up as "Postponed: VM job unmanageable, restarting later". This happens on my second experimental semi-broken laptop too. No new tasks is started either.
In this case running Manjaro. Rosetta or WCG jobs have never been a issue before. It's Vbox jobs that is the issue.
Something seems to prevent further use of Vbox.
Atleast I know it's not a ram issue. Got roughly 16GB to spare on main computer. Dynamically adjusted swap. Most often 0 or close to 0.
