Hi,

just a question regarding links. If a link is in %s, like

%stop predictions%s

do I
-have to replace "top predictions" by the translated name "Beste Vorhersagen" or
-does the program fetch that name from the link name assigned to it on the home page and simply won't find the link if I mess it up by translating it?

Replace "top predictions" and keep the "%s". Thanks!

Hi David,

I found it's very difficult for me to understand most of the information in this page. IMO, only good understanding can lead to good translation. So is it possible to rewrite some parts of this page with less professsion terms and less long sentences? (while more normal-people-can-understand words and more short sentences are highly welcomed~~)

Best Regards,
Yin Gang

Yin, I for one think that if not that research page, that SOME page should be left at that highly technical level. I feel that it helps people see that these really are scientists here. Especially if the reader happens to be highly knowledgable on the subject already. Perhaps the project team could locate another scientist to translate that page to Chinese for you. And then you could format the text into the .po file.

I wanted to point out a Q&A item where they feel they saw the German translation of the site, rather than English. I suppose I should have asked them to go to Google and check what language it displays in. Just wondering if there are adverse side effects of the translations that are in progress here.

Hi,
IN the en.po:

msgid "RAH_CYBERSCIENCE"
msgstr "David Baker Profile%s - Protein Folding (UW Cyberscience Symposium Article)"

Isn't there a typo ( %sDavid Baker Profile%s ). I don't understand why there's only one %s.
Sorry if my question seems stupid, I just want to be sure.

Arnaud, it wasn't a typo but a bad use of it on my part. I removed the %s. Thanks for catching this.

Yin, I will see if someone in lab can help translate. We have a few native Chinese speakers.

I noticed the German translation of the home page yesterday when I activated the use of the de.po file that Christoph provided and fixed the issue. Basically, what happened was that the hompage cached with the translated version. I turned off caching of the translatable pages and will soon post an announcment that we are now using the boinc translation options and are seeking volunteer translators.

Are there any translations that people are working on that I can add before making the announcment? So far we have German only.

Hi David,

The zh_CN.po is almost finished except some items from the page I mentioned in previous post. Most translations came from this site which we've made a few months ago.

By the way, how should we pass the fully/partial translated PO file to you?

Best regards,
Yin Gang

Yin,

You can email the file to me at dekim at u.washington.edu. Also, please include placeholder text for the partially translated sections (do not remove any msgids or msgstrs).

Thanks,

Hi,
I'm currently working on the fr.po file (French) and it will probably be available next month (I'm slowly working on it during week-ends)

First: The high percentage and the quality of the German translation of R@H is amazing, thanks to all volunteers (espec. to Christoph, AFAIK)!

Just one suggestion: Today I wanted to show this project to a Rumanian friend of mine, but I almost couldn't find the button for changing the language (from German to English). After quite a while I figured out that this is the link called "Sprachen". Well, my thought was: If somebody wants to change the default language, he will watch out for something like "language" or similar. If he doesn't understand German at all (in this example), he will never manage to change the language of this homepage!

As I said, just a suggestion: "Change language" must not be translated but remain international. And a more prominent place on the page (i.e. top right or similar) would this make easier to find.

Nevertheless: Good translations, good information, good community, good project. Happy crunchin'!

I sent the fr.po file to Mr Kim a few days ago (the good file is in my third email message, the file in my first message was bugged)
Can someone confirm that the Rosetta team received it (I know the team has lot of work: I just want to be sure the file is not lost in a spam box)
Thanks

I still do not see French listed on the languages page. David, were you able to use Arnaud's .po file?

Hi,

if there is a new round of translations implementation I would like to rework the last de.po a little. I think I already removed most of the misspellings in the last file I sent (which is not one the currently online) but am not sure if the "link bug" has been removed in there too (on the "science" page a CASP link is extended over a number of paragraph as I forgot set a % instead of %s at the end).

And it would be nice to also include the newest features in the de.po like the "results" and the "how to view your structure predictions".

Regards,

Christoph

Hi,
I've sent a first .po file and Mr Kim put it on the Beta-test site: I saw that my file was not good and have done a lot of corrections.
I sent the second .po file (that was corrected) but had no answer: so, I let it down.
I still have the .po file on my Windows' Desktop.
I can send it to someone wanting to work on it/improve it.
