The Server status page now says there is work, so you know as much about it as anyone (which isn't much).

I think there might be a bug. The server status page regularly says "Tasks ready to send: 8086" - it's often exactly 8086 tasks, whilst I'm constantly getting "No work sent" in the logs. So I wonder if that's actually 0 tasks and they're either stuck, or it's an offset.

I'm switching to other projects in the mean-time.

Not receiving work either.
Hopefully this is resolved soon.

I don't think there is anything to resolve. They have more crunchers than work. That is great. The scientists can get their stuff done in a timely manner.

On the other hand, if you need to keep your room warm in the winter, there are plenty of other projects.

It's back to 8086 tasks to send but in reality there's no work available.

Are those tasks wrongly configured or is it a website/calculation error?

I actually suspect there is some manual step involved and there is no one around to do it most of the time. Or no one who cares that much.

If it were managed on a reasonable basis, then they would have enough low priority projects to run the rest of the time rather than go spastic (the way it's been running for the last few months). I was hoping to earn 10 million points, but maybe the project will die of neglect before that time. (Am I hoping to trade the 10 million points for a boxtop?)

Just as a hint: an easy way to avoid running out of work when there are not many WUs available is setting the runtime to 24 hours. With that setting BOINC will crunch each WU 3 times longer than with the default setting.

+1
6 days without work.
I think it's not difficult for admins to write a post just to say "Ok guys, we have problems on server" or "Ok guys, we are working on new app so we need to stop the queue".

My ponies are starving, not enough crunchy work units :(
I was aiming to hit TOP50 this winter, but now I need to hold my horses.. or ponies.
For all seriousness, I think there is a bug, or work unit generator is getting stuck or false information how many workunits needs to be created or is available. It can't be like suddenly there will be tens of thousands workunits available and then number is going towards 8086. And maybe staff is trying to fix it, but it happens over and over again.
But still some news from staff would cheer cruncher up!

Same here. I'm adding other projects to my machines which I've generally not done in the past because there was usually lots of work. It would be useful to know from someone involved in the project:
* Is there sufficient compute capacity already, so the queue can be expected to be empty sometimes?
* Is it that there is intermittent compute capacity required, so sometimes there won't be any work? That's fine for me - it's just useful to know.
* Is the 8086 tasks remaining bug on the server page known about?

thanks,
D

What sort of system and OS are you running ? Are you an experienced User already working other projects ?

I'll ask around the lab if anyone is planning to submit jobs to the queue soon. There should still be some jobs getting queued up here and there from our public structure prediction server, Robetta.

I was about to say the same thing. I've seen some (very) small bursts of tasks but by the time I checked the Server Status they were already all gone

Gives the impression of a rather amateurish hour, eh?

As I've said before, my main concern is that it taints the results. Any results reported out of Rosetta@home have to be replicated because it all feels like preliminary work.

How exactly does the fact, that the project has not always enough work for everyone anything to do with the quality of the results? Apparently they got the amount of results they need for the current tasks and are not in hurry to release the next batch. That's their choise, we don't know why and I'm fine with that. The fact, that they don't generete more WUs than they need just to satisfy some people thinking only about their RAC, does not make it feel "like preliminary work", but quite the opposite. New work is available now btw.

Best not to ask questions. They've had the same issue which really comes down to their system and how they use it, but want the scientists to change the project to fix the issues. It has been suggested that maybe this is not the project for them but yet they keep coming back. Best bet, just ignore what they have to say as none of it is based upon any facts.
