Hi i am new to rosetta@home. I am wondering if rosetta does create checkpoints and if so after what interval. I suspended the first Wu after 2 minutes to switch to seti back. But after this the Wu started again from the beginning. So if boinc starts switching between the aplications will I loose the work already done.

Regards

R@H's current checkpointing method is coarse. It will start from the last structure it was working on so if 3 structures where made and the 4th was almost done but the application was stopped, the time spent on trying to make the 4th structure would be lost since it has to go back to the start of the 4th structure. So at most, the time it takes to build one structure can be lost. The current workunits generate 12 structures. 10 low resolution and 2 high resolution (these take significantly more time to make and is done at the end). In your example, the first structure was not made in the two minutes it was running so it had to start over again.

Thanks for the quick response

A related question would be, how long does it take to get through a structure, especially the last ones.. If a user swaps out every hour (the project default), would that be enough time for a slow computer to complete the last structure. If not, that project would appear to have "hung" and never complete.

Does R@H create a checkpoint between the two hi-res structures,at 91.67% complete? I've had a couple of WU's drop back to 83.33% from 91.67% complete after switching off the computer at night and rebooting the following day. Other than that no problems caused by rebooting computer,
