Allow me to describe how I believe it should work, and does work for me (under my normal user ID) and then please post if your experience differs. If you add a specific user ID to your filtered users list in the message board preferences, then when there is a post by that user, regardless of the "rating" it has been given by other users, it will be omitted with a message as follows: This post has been filtered (rating: 0) and the user is on your ignore list, press http://here to view this thread without filtering Where "rating: 0" will reflect the current rating of the post. Positive or negative... or zero. The other control is the filter threshold. If you put in zero, it doesn't mean NOT to filter, it means ANY post with a rating less then zero will be omitted from your display, regardless of the author. The default for this value is -25. Note: NEGATIVE 25. This means if a post received 25 more negative votes then positive, it would be omitted from your view. If your filter threshold was the cause of the post being omitted, the message has the following form: This post has been filtered (rating: -1), press http://here to view this thread without filtering Where "rating: -1" would be one or more less then the filter in your message board preferences. Since the message does not mention the user being on your ignore list, that was not the cause of it being omitted, it was the filter threshold. So, for those of you finding that a single negative vote is omitting posts from your view, it sounds like you've set your filter threshold to zero. And if this is not what you want, then perhaps the default of -25 would be more to your likeing. Please note that the project and moderators do not establish these ratings, they come from the user community. Please also note that the project does not omit messages with a -1 rating... unless you've requested it do so via your message board preferences. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

the filter part of things does not work properly, as is the case in word link where the user posted and still shows up in the forum. all i have done there is to add the user to the ignore list which seems not to work. i have not changed any filter settings as of yet, i will go check those a bit later. |

the filter part of things does not work properly, as is the case in word link where the user posted and still shows up in the forum. So you can see a post from your filtered user, without this text (regardless of the rating score) and you can see the text of their post? This post has been filtered (rating: 0) and the user is on your ignore list, press here to view this thread without filtering Remember, you can still see that the filtered user has posted - it doesn't become invisible. I wonder if my above post was seen since it got voted -1? Not a problem....it's in plain view!....Cheers, Rog. |

the filtered/ignore list user shows up in the open in the forum that I goto. in fact all posts by this user go unfiltered from the looks of it. the only thing different about their post is a green exclamation point beside their name. other wise their text is in the clear just like everyone else's. the filter part of things does not work properly, as is the case in word link where the user posted and still shows up in the forum. |

looking over my filter settings i see i had 0 for both filter level and enforcement level. I have now set those to -25 and 5 respectively. doing this has now put the ignored user into a filter and i do not see his posts unless i click on the "here" button. so now i see the: This post has been filtered (rating: 1) and the user is on your ignore list, press here to view this thread without filtering however i thought that the filter would block them out completely from being seen by me, not just filtered into a message that you could see anyway. this is good enough. thanks for you help folks. |

The red 'x' function in the forum is not working AGAIN. There is a missing system setup parameter. It returns the following error: This project has not yet defined an administrator to handle this kind of forum reports. Please contact the project and tell them to add this information in their html/project/project.inc file Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Angus, are you saying there was a time when it WAS working? I already know it doesn't do anything. And there's nothing a moderator can do to change that. So the issue doesn't belong in a moderator contact thread. ...on the other hand, if you found something SO offensive that it warrents a red X, then THAT DOES belong in a moderator contact thread. Or, if you prefer, an EMail to the moderators. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Yes, it was working right after I complained last time, a few weeks ago. I was going to give you credit for getting them to get it working, but <never mind>. So the issue doesn't belong in a moderator contact thread. Isn't it your stated mission to report these things to the project? It's broken, it's needs the setup completed, so REPORT IT! AGAIN! No, that is not my stated mission. It is however something that I end up doing from time to time. I will ask them to look in to it, even though I'm quite certain it's never done anything, and I do not feel it is a feature that is really needed at present. There's only been one user, just in the past few weeks that has required any moderation. ...and by the way, I would do the same even if you did not use all the red ink, CAPS, and exclaimation points. This post was the end of a LONG "discussion" on forum use and methods of reporting offensive posts in confidence (without giving out-of-project moderators the user's private email address). Perhaps you should read the 30 or 45 days of earlier posts in that thread to figure out why this is such a sensitive topic. Oh, and BTW, it's "ARCHIVE", not "ARCHIEVE" Proudly Banned from Predictator@Home and now Cosmology@home as well. Added SETI to the list today. Thanks for the link. I had asked about the red X when I began as a moderator and was told otherwise. As I said, I'll ask that it be investigated. In the meantime, moderators delete obscene or threatening posts on sight anyway. With the new version of the forum server code, I was even able to change the misspelling in the thread title (gosh, I HOPE it didn't EMail EVERYONE in that thread about a single character deletion). Note, we cannot change the content of another user's post, but we can now change thread titles. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Hearing no further comments on the issues about filtered users and filter thresholds, I'll plan to move the posts related to that topic to the archive tomorrow. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

I've just been informed by David Kim, that the red X is now enabled, and received an EMail at the moderator's contact EMail address from such a clicking of the red X. Thus confirming it's functionality. Important note: The notification sent to the moderators when the X is pressed is NOT entirely anonymous. The user that took that action is identified by the system. However, the user's EMail address is not reveiled, just their Rosetta user number. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

i think you should create a separate forum for account deletion and leave this one for other general requests/complaints etc. |

Q. Why am I getting a 'Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) error'? * A. An error occurred somewhere on the computer, it could have been BOINC or Rosetta@Home or any programme that your computer was doing at the time. This is not a Rosetta@Home specific error, as far as I am aware it happens, on occasion, in all of the BOINC applications. Keep Rosetta@Home in memory and ignore this problem if it's not getting out of hand. The above answer is noy quite correct. I was having many task terminating with that kind of errors. Turning off the screen savers mode fixed it. I believe that the driver for the graphic card might be in cause. Maybe an update of the driver will do. I will let you know. |
