Is it not a deadline problem? If the deadline in too short BOINC enters in panic mode and crunch first the WUs with the closer date. No, if you actually SUSPEND, then that's what BOINC should do. Ilya, I saw your post, but don't have any experience with Mac. ...and had assumed Mod9 (who DOES have a Mac) would come and offer some info. But it seems Mod9 hasn't been around lately. I did see issues like that with the older BOINC versions on Windows. I would suspend, the display would SAY it is suspended, and my task manager would show it is still crunching away. So, yes, upgrading BOINC would be a reasonable course. ...especially if you were on Windows :) I really have no idea is similar issues arose on Mac. Add this signature to your EMail: Running Microsoft's "System Idle Process" will never help cure cancer, AIDS nor Alzheimer's. But running Rosetta@home just might! https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/ |

Why don't I read post carrefuly? 'Suspended' was the key word of course. |

Should I report WU's that cannot be completed? I put Rosetta on my son's gaming PC, but he removed it after completing 4 WU's, with two in process. WU's 24670641 & 24646923 |

Should I report WU's that cannot be completed? I put Rosetta on my son's gaming PC, but he removed it after completing 4 WU's, with two in process. Not necessary to report this, the BOINC server at Rosetta will notice they failed to come back, and if necessary, will send them out to someone else. but he removed it ... and the law says we can't spank them, damn liberals! There is a hole in the process for the new work credit. A workunit failure at https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=33613027 shows the failure of the work unit. https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/workunit.php?wuid=29132098 shows that it was not captured by the new work unit crediting system. dag dag --Finding aliens is cool, but understanding the structure of proteins is useful. |

Beach Bum: Going to post this now. But will not need the help for a little bit of time yet. Sorry it's taken so long to get around to this. Please go ahead and make your new post in the team thread, and add an update here as a reminder to remove your previous post in that thread. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Mod.Tymbrimi I'll go clean things up a bit. Oh - very impressive way to handle situation. Deleting Johns offence and my plus another moderator responce to it. But leaving in tact all the garbage directed against me posted by Sangamon Taylor and Phoenix. Like they were not explained that it was not my choice and not my intention to post under Administrator name. John seemed under the impression that you chose the name "Administrator" for ulterior motives to present your opinions of the other projects. But you know that this impression is plain wrong - it was explained to you, John, his team members and anyone else dozen times. And not only by me but by other participants and Mod.DE You posted your opinions about other projects as "facts". Oh, I state my opinion and always tried back it with what I know. If someone disagree - he can post his opinion and explain why he think so. That what forums are about. Those that have run those projects may see your opinions stated as "facts" as offensive. This sounds really confusing to me. You use that expression second time. What do you mean by saying opinions stated as "facts"? I'm expressing my opinion the best way I can, if someone disagree he always welcome to critique me and back his point. I never said something "whatever I wrote here is final facts and not to be discussed further". Or what do you mean? You don't have to insult someone directly when insulting the project they run. It is and never was my intention to insult anyone. Being sceptical about worthwhileness of some another projects is my right, and yes, I back my point whenever possible - not trying just "insult projects" for the sake of insulting. Read for example my last post there. |

TestPilot: 1. I am not finished. 2. John made a post. He was then informed that we were trying to get your "TestPilot" account back so you didn't have to use the "Administrator" to post here. And because he was informed after posting, you claim he shouldn't have had that impression when he made his post? 3. That house is green. [a fact.] I think that green house looks ugly. [an opinion.] That green house is ugly. [an opinion stated as fact.] There are more people running Seti than Rosetta@Home. [a fact.] I feel that Seti wastes cpu cycles by using too large a quorum. [an opinion.] Socially conscious people run Rosetta rather than Seti. [an opinion stated as fact.] Try stating opinions in the "I think", "I feel", "It seems to me", "In my mind" formats. Mod.Tymbrimi And because he was informed after posting, you claim he shouldn't have had that impression when he made his post? That guy should not insult others by posting personal attack, irrelavantely if he was informed or not and his "impressions". [an opinion stated as fact] Here come example of opinion stated as a fact: Mod.Tymbrimi If WCG using an older version of Rosetta requires 1000 results be tested to find a potential cure; while WCG using a newer version of Rosetta two years from now would require 20 results be tested to find the same cure. You came to thread where problem gone, brought old stuff up, said " my sincerely apology" to guy who did nothing but posted unmotivated attack. You knew you starting flame. Now you selectively deleted posts, and starting to talk about "opinions as facts" and someones "impressions". I'll try(the best I can) to post no futher on this subject cuz this is a flame discassion by nature. |

That guy should not insult others by posting personal attack, Granted. But why did he post that way? If there was something I could have done to keep him from posting that way, should I have done it? If I saw an approach that would have eliminated the temptation for him to respond that way, and I did not take it, should I apologize? And to whom should I apologize if I should apologize? That's not a word I use, Mike047. And one of the reasons I haven't responded to your email is that I'm basically a moderator initiate. I haven't moved up to handling the email, yet. Hey THANKS for your response, sorry that I assumed it was you.:( |

Mod TymBrimi; THANKS DE for your response, sorry for confusing you with TYM:( I guess I'll have to do a German word search. Being an American, I am linguistically challenged:D, And apparently don't do well at my posting sometimes:(:) |

Mod TymBrimi; That means something like "malicious delight".... |

The link Vester posted gives the definition as, "A malicious satisfaction obtained from the misfortunes of others." It reminded me of the name of the story teller in The Thousand and One Nights; perhaps the male version of her name. I'll have to get into the habit of signing the messages. Hmm.. Perhaps I could delete a few messages of Ethan's, sign it as Mod.De and see how quickly it's noticed that my writing style and his are different. <evil grin> Posting this makes it impossible to get away with the prank. Besides, deleting messages and writing helpful comments is not something I find fun; as you're limited with the sense of humor you can use, or it's taken wrong. Perhaps, someday, I will live up to my pseudonym. But first, I should work on the serious side of this task, before moving on to fun stuff. hugothehermit: Dr David Kim may need to see David Kim mentions here that he's not a PhD. We seem to get away with referring to David Baker as Dr., though. The link you shared was passed on to David Kim. Let us know when it's been addressed, if we don't notice it first. <smile> Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Tymbrimi ROSETTA@home FAQ Moderator Contact |
