When I started on crunching I had 4 computers on 1 team , then I removed 1 to go to another project and since then I havnt been able to merge the tally ( if you can do it that way) to get it running only 3 computers . I have tried everything but it still stays there , which doesnt really worry me as I still want to keep the score that it had accumulated while I had it running , but I suspect it is interfering with my "recent average credit " Is there anything I can do about this ? |

RAC isn't based on number of computers, nor is it the sum of the computer's RACs... it's strictly calculated on the date/time a credit was awarded and the amount of the credit. So shutting off 1/4 of your computers for a project will _over_time_ cause your RAC to drop to 3/4 of what it was, but that's it, and only because you aren't producing as much. Computers aren't on teams - whole accounts are. Not sure what you mean by "4 computers on 1 team". Deleting a computer from the records of a project does not delete the credits. When credit is awarded, it is added to three separate places; your computer, you, and your team. Once written, nothing (well, the project staff _could_ manually do it I suppose) removes it. In general, once all the results returned by a given computer that no longer "exists" have been deleted, it is better to go ahead and delete the computer. (You can't delete it until all results are gone.) But even if you don't, if the project is running the "latest version" of the server code, it will be labeled "inactive" after a few months, and won't appear on your hosts list on the site. The one reason _to_ delete a computer is that the 3rd-party stats sites such as BOINCStats track "number of hosts" as one of their criteria. So if you show 4 hosts, you are competing with others who have 4 hosts, and if you show only 3, you have a better chance of being "high" in the rankings of those with 3 hosts working on the project. Realistically, the whole "# of hosts" category is meaningless though. You can only merge "identical" computers, that is provided so that if you detach and reattach the same computer, you don't have two separate host ids to clutter things up. |

You *should* only merge identical computers. If a host is no longer contributing to a project, sometimes you find that BOINC gives you the option of merging with a different box. It can be worth doing that to gain an advantage in the stats, but strictly speaking it counts as a subtle cheat if it isn't really the same box. The advantages are firstly as Bill said, and secondly if (for example) you merged a dozen retired win-98 PII boxes into a single ongoing one, you could get that composite box to the top of the win-98 PII charts on some of the stats sites. To do so deliberately feels like cheating to me, but I am sure it's been done. River~~ |

Look , forget I mentioned about merging , it is just something that I tried to fix ( what I consider a problem ) and there is no thought of cheating in my mind . What I meant is simply that I joined Rosetta with 4 computers and started a group ,The Rebels Haven Computer Forum , then took 1 of the computers off that setup and put it with another Rosetta group , Overclockers Australia , and it seems to be going Ok there . All I asked whether I could get rid of the computer in my original setup , thats all , simple in my mind . I am not a computer wizard , I am only a retired motor mechanic who likes playing around with computers, so if my explaining this technology is a bit less than desired I am sorry . On top of that have a nice day everyone :) |

The computers will ALL be in your account, but on two different Teams ... no problems ... All 4 will credit towards your total, and the Teams will be getitng their shares. |
