I am running the menubar BOINC app on two macs, a G5 iMac 1.6 and a G4 powerbook aluminum 1.67. How are your benchmarks compared to mine? |

Benchmarks on my Macs are in line with yours; your 'book is 841/2619, above my 1.25 Mini at 635/1986, and your iMac a bit higher than the Powerbook at 886/2875 - the G5 is slightly better than the G4 at the same clock speed. My much slower iBook G3 is down at 542/1318. Not sure why you're concerned with benchmarks though, if you're asking about speed of the Rosetta application. The benchmarks relate _only_ to credit. The Rosetta Mac application seems _very_ slow to me compared to the Windows version; they are looking at the issue presently. There is discussion about a) it could be sped up a bit by dropping OS X 10.3.9 support, and b) it could be sped up greatly if they could put in Altivec optimization, with or without dropping 10.3.9. The good news is that because you aren't "competing" with Windows users in the same quorum, you get the correct credit even though the Mac takes longer. (ie; if you claim 30, you get 30, even though a Windows user doing a 'very similar' result might only claim and get 10, because it took 1/3 the time on an 'equivalent' CPU.) |

Interesting, thanks for the response... Hopefully a new Rosetta will get written for the Mac, and we'll get to fully utilize our machines... |
