Tasks have been coming down today - maybe 100k or more, some of which I've snaffled - but in progress tasks are still around 300k below the level needed to fill buffers, so we're hand-to-mouth for a little while yet. Some progress, but still a way to go. |

More "back to" than "still", but yes Pretty full buffers here for now, so let's see what happens tomorrow Maintaining an increased runtime of 12hrs for a while longer |

More "back to" than "still", but yes The annoying thing is that admins are silent |

Yep I'm starting to run out like everyone else. Maybe now that it's Monday morning someone will come in and start generating new WU's for distribution. I can tell when my boxes are starting to run out, the house starts cooling down. lol .......... "You can't get there from here .... " |

More "back to" than "still", but yes Tasks started coming through again about 3hrs ago. I'm back up to full buffers for the moment. No idea if it'll last - looks like we need 3-400k tasks just to refill all buffers |

Tasks started coming through again about 3hrs ago. And, again, empty. It's up and down run for the project |

And, again, empty. I added back a Ryzen 3900X, but if it so near the edge, maybe it would be better off elsewhere. There is no point in more crunchers than work contending over the crumbs. |

Tasks started coming through again about 3hrs ago. What do you expect when COVID-19 restrictions are limiting how many students can participate in the project staff? I leave my computer running all night and it gets several tasks then. World Community Grid has an Open Pandemics subproject that is currently working mostly on COVID-19. |

What do you expect when COVID-19 restrictions are limiting how many students can participate in the project staff? A little message on home page/forum is too much? |

What do you expect when COVID-19 restrictions are limiting how many students can participate in the project staff? You'd rather have the message than however many tasks could be created in the time the message took? |

I have multiple machines dedicated to Rosetta. I have increased the Compute Preferences buffer from default "0.2" days to 2 days plus. I hope that will provide a sufficient buffer and stop my idle time. I have also joined the World Community Grid project to test it and there is no shortage of tasks. If Rosetta is unable to fully utilize its volunteer capacity, it may make sense to go to another project for a while. |

You'd rather have the message than however many tasks could be created in the time the message took? I think it's a kind of respect for volunteers. The queue is empty for days and the problem is 2 minutes to write a message? Realy? |

The queue is empty for days and the problem is 2 minutes to write a message? Really? This comes up every time and I still don't know what message people want to receive that'll make any difference to anything. 1) The project is out of tasks 2) More tasks will be provided as soon as they can be - not before, nor after they can. They take time to prepare, so they're ready when they're ready. 3) This isn't a project that makes up an endless supply of new tasks out of fresh air. Tasks will <never> be sent out just to keep users busy (I've specifically been told this one). All of them are for a specific purpose. So, given that, if people run out of tasks the choices are up to them. Essentially, wait or don't wait. Many people already have a back-up project. People constantly advise those who don't have a back-up project, to chose and set up a back-up project. I already mentioned I increased my runtime in preference to switching projects too quickly. Others can do whatever they like. My cable broadband went down yesterday. I did a status-check and it was an issue with my provider. Messages: none. Then a default message said 4pm after another status check. Then it was changed to 7:45pm today. It actually got fixed at 11am. The only information provided was wrong. And that's a supplier I pay, and for whom it's an existential issue. In reality, it got fixed when it was fixed and no-one wasted time making half a million individual apologies, saying only what everyone already knew |

I am replying to my post below since I have read the proper way to weight projects if running more than one. Apparently, having 2 projects with a large buffer and one project with a high priority may cause the secondary project's tasks' deadline to pass with no work done. So I will reduce my buffer to default (.2) days and set Rosetta priority to be 999999. I gleaned this info from post 92976. thanks all. |

Your 999999 number is okay but a bit overkill, you could just as easily used 99 or 999 as it's all based on the relationship of the numbers out of the whole. Ie I use 100 as he highest number so all of my Projects have single or double digit resource shares. You using 999999 means that your other projects that have a resource share of 1 will almost never get any work at all and if they run for a few days because Rosetta is out of work it could be months before they get any more work. Think of it as a pie, each project gets a percentage of that pie, so if Rosetta gets 99% of the pie that only leaves 1 percent for everything else or back to the pie analogy one bite of the pie for me while you get all the rest of it. If you slice that pie into 1M pieces that's alot of pieces. |

This setup works very well on my all computers: - Set the project weight in Rosetta to 100 - Set the project weight in World Community Grid to 0 How does it work? All computers try to get Rosetta tasks. If the tasks are available, the computers will download them and they do not ask for WCG tasks in this case. Anytime when Rosetta runs out of tasks and the local buffer goes empty, the computers will ask WCG tasks instead - until Rosetta provides new task. Thanks to the 0 weight in WCG, the computers will not build buffer for this project. They try to get Rosetta tasks first (and build buffer). If no available, they download another WCG task. With this configuration my computers never stay idle. You can add one more backup project, because it can happen that due to the higher number of volunteers in WCG could cause temporary download/upload server outage. |

Thanks Mikey, you are correct that the weighting is overkill. I should have explained why I chose such a high resource share number (999999). I only want to participate in Rosetta project but do not want any idle time either. So, it's ok if my one "backup" project (World Community Grid) doesn't receive any tasks for months, that just means I'm 100% crunching for Rosetta. |
