Hi! I`ve downlloaded & installed BOINC Client successfully, but when I run it it can't connect. I can't attache any to any of projects because it need some proxy adress (and i don't have any proxy or socks). In options proxy settings are turned on and "gray" so i can't change it.

If you mean under options then ignore it. Its hard to explain how to connect so try this link here: http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Attaching_The_BOINC_Client_Software_To_A_BOINC_Powered_Project

I hope this will help ;)

I know how to attach but when the wizard opens, and after pasting project's URL he tries to connect and then asking for proxy and socks adress...

The proxy box comes up when it takes more than 3 seconds to connect to the URL given. If you are not behind a proxy, then there are two things to try. One - reboot your machine, and power down/back up any hardware routers, switches, modems, etc. that you can, in order to "reset" your local setup. Two - if you still get the proxy box after that, wait a while and try again. I don't know about Rosetta, but SETI at the moment is dealing with over 5 THOUSAND new users coming in per day, when the normal amount is more like 700... and the servers are just overwhelmed. It seems like most other projects are also getting a pretty heavy load at the moment.

If rebooting and waiting doesn't work, one of the network gurus will have to walk you through traceroute and ping and the other magical incantations they use.

What Boinc version do you using, firewall? Are you connected to localhost? DSL or analog modem?

the problem is... i know how to ping, traceroute etc... and tried almost everything. And i don't have any routers and swithes. Simple ISDN modem, firewall turned off. It's possible that it is server fault.

Have you tried attaching to another project?

Getting really desperate now. .....

Did you try running a packet sniffer to actually see what's being sent and received, and more importantly, when it's being sent and received? If you see a long delay before returning packets, it could indicate server load.

Ethereal and Analyzer are two of the best.

It takes a bit of practice to interpret the results, but a TCP connection starts with three packets: outbound with just the SYN flag, inbound with SYN and ACK, outbound with ACK. Select a packet, open the TCP header, and then open the flags, you'll see it all in there. If there's a huge long delay before the SYN/ACK gets back, that might be a problem.

Hmm, thats hard, try out Boinc 5.2.7 if you are using 5.2.8 or any older version like 4.45 or 4.72 if the problem exists for a long way :(
