Please post minirosetta v1.28 bugs/issues here.

edit: The windows applications are no longer being compressed with UPX in order for the BOINC debugging utility (symbols store) to work.

This version contains numerous updates/developments to the scientific protocols including abinitio, jumping, and loop modeling. It also contains a fix for the graphics application.

I just had a minirosetta workunit fail on me. When I took a look at my computer I had a firewall (Zonelarm) popup saying that minirosetta 1.28 wanted to communicate with the internet and asked me whether to allow it. I don't know if it failed because it had to wait too long to communicate or if it tried to communicate because it failed...

Anyway, here is the info:

Hung WU at 100%, after 3:09:42 of processing time shown, on a one hour run time preference.
CPU time not incrementing. Graphics would not open.

After restarting BOINC, these messages. CPU Time reverted to 0:00:00, and Progess started over at 0%.

BOINC 5.10.20 Win2K SP4 AMD XP2600

Basically, the box sat idle most of the day. I think I will abort all Mini WUs until (if?) they become stable.

These lines are expected for now. It's not a bug. They represent the "jumps" during the run. We will not display them in the future, like the rosetta++ graphics.

I still cannot manage to run minirosetta. The task seems to start however there is 0% cpu utilization and its not working at all. However, there is no error in log... I am running boinc 5.10.45 on Windows XP SP2, IBM T43. Other projects including standard Rosetta application (not minirosetta) are working well...

PS I also tried to reset project and download files again... However it did not help.

I understood from the release log that 1.28 should eliminate unnecessary data base files. I completed two v1.28 tasks and I still have (now) 6 mini-rosetta databases totaling 76 MB. Delete doesn't work or doesn't work as I expect?

I had the same problem, it was taking about 2 hours to go from 96% to 97% done. Can't seem to find it in my results page.

Runtime reference were set to 2 hours. After 4 hours i looked into the graphics. The structure was not folded, a long pearl chain. I aborted the workunit.

Yesterday, and again today, I noticed a Rosetta unit active, but Windows Task Manager showed it getting no CPU. Both times I aborted the unit. The most recent looked like this in the message log:

6/16/2008 9:34:38 PM|rosetta@home|Unrecoverable error for result t405__CASP8_JUMPAB_RES81to192_SAVE_ALL_OUT_BARCODE__3758_12512_0 (aborted via GUI RPC)

I hate to see my PC sitting idle when I could be processing SETI or ClimatePrediction.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just noticed this as well. I did a quick reboot and it started again. But agreed, CPU sitting idle is very painful...

On both Windows and Linux, tasks are crashing after a second, with stack traces, like:

d100a_BOINC_CASP8_ABRELAX_alt_t405_IGNORE_THE_REST-S25-10-S3-7--d100a-_3648_5375_2 - process exited with code 193 (0xc1, -63), SIGSEGV: segmentation violation

I'm just curious if you guys are aware that graphics only semi work on the new boinc v6 beta client with protection enabled. You can see text, just no images.

This one crashed with a really long error log and a huge windows debugger call log.

I had paused the 5.96 stuff I was crunching on so that I could get a 1.28 task into the firewall ok before I go off for the night. But it died right away from the looks of it. I had to authorize it to go through the firewall, but I did that right away. So there was only a few seconds of delay getting started.
I then left it alone, and restarted the 5.96 tasks I was running.

That is odd. Do you still have these? they should have been deleted. You can manually delete the databases (minirosetta_database_revXXXXX.zip). The current version is minirosetta_database_rev23035.zip.

I still have the mini DBs after processing several v1.28 tasks; something isn't working. Can anyone else verify that deletion of old DBs has worked on their windows XP machines?

Okay, there must be an issue with the file cleanup on Windows. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the heads up.

There was a little miscommunication and the person who ran the local test confirms that we can reproduce this with the t405 task so we have something to work with now. It appears to be just a linux issue. When the boinc api calls exit, it stalls.

I've got a Mini 1.28 task running now, Win XP. I have rev21566, rev22619 and rev23035 all in Rosetta's projects directory.

yeah, the cleanup is not working. I figured out the problem. stupid mistake on my part. sorry. Hopefully it will work in the next release which should be coming soon. In the mean time, you can all manually remove the old minirosetta_database files.

What rev numbers of minirosetta_database files are safe to delete? Keep up the good work.

I have a problem with rosetta, starte only a few day's ago. When a task is terminated it doesn't try to report its results. It just stay's there at 100% 'running'
I'm on linux with rosetta beta 5.96.

I don't know how to fix this, so i suspended rosetta alltogether.
If you need more information, please ask.

Winston, that issue is discussed in a few different ways through this thread. A recent batch of tasks seems to have caused this to occur more frequently on Linus machines. Aborting the problem task will clear the problem until it is fully corrected.

Thnx for the tip, shame I wasted that CPU time. I know this is het mini 1.28 problem, but the malfunctioning tasks are 5.96. Is 1.28 causing the problem with 5.96?

Mini 1.28 computation finished on WU 155747918 when time to completion still over 40 minutes. Job reported automatically but a validation error was recorded. Are these factors linked? It seems to have been a waste of 19.3 hours. Can anything be done to recover the WU & points?

On a happy note from my perspective and just so the news isn't all bad... I don't recall ever seeing a mini-Rosetta task of any version that didn't run on my Intel/Windows XP computer using Boinc 5.10.13 (don't know if I got a t405 or not). I'm either very lucky with the tasks I'm assigned or there is something very special about my computer setup. Hope my luck continues and...knock on wood!

The current version is minirosetta_database_rev23035.zip.

I just tried to delete the old minirosetta_database's.

I have Rev20940, 21566, 22619 & 23035. I deleted all but Rev23035, (the size of the old db's are 43.7MB) when I opened up boinc manger it started 2 download these again so I closed bm & replaced them so I don"t use my data unnecessarily. has this happened to any one else?
Cheers

I think you have to not only delete the physical DB files but you also have to remove any reference to these files from the client_state.xml file as well, otherwise Boinc will think the DBs are simply missing and try to download them again. Unless you are good with xml it is best to wait for David Kim to release the proper software...so please hurry.

These are odd errors. Can you try to reset the project on your client? I wonder if the database file got corrupted. We'll look into this further.

You'd have to write your own anonymous platform description file app_info.xml for Rosetta project, which would contain just the required application(s) and describe all other necessary files. I've done few for SETI@Home in the past, but Rosetta's files requirements are superior to those of SETI.

It would be simpler for you to set Rosetta to NoNewTasks for the time being and try again later.

Or someone can volunteer...

I regret to inform you (Rosetta team) that I will no longer be participating much longer with the Rosetta@home project on 1 of my 3 computers (which donates approx 500 credits daily, which may not seem like much to you). Because of the fact that any minirosetta tasks that get downloaded, never start and stay in a blank "CPU time"/Running state getting nothing done ever (this was reported over a month ago, and opt outs have been requested by others as well prior)

Because of this I have been forced to abort minirosetta tasks, which for the past 3 days now have been the only things I have been getting (1 in 100 being 5.96 tasks) Meaning every day I come in and MANUALLY cancel 75+ tasks (until your servers state I have gotten my daily quota), and only getting 1 5.96 tasks if I'm lucky, which is too much of a hassle. Seeing as you still have left no way for me to opt out of the minirosetta project, and I've been forced to use a non-working application, I will have to end participation in the project on that computer.

Most of the information about my computer should already be in my profile, but if you need additional information or need help debugging I am always happy to help, so feel free to leave me a private message. Sorry

We're looking into this. It's not a general error but seems specific to your computer. The errors now are all similar and coming from the same area in the code according to the trace in stderr.

Can you please run the Ralph project with this computer since minirosetta is under constant development and may become stable for this particular machine? I don't really know what could be going on. I'm going to update mini soon within a few days.

Hi,

occasionally it happens that when I suspend a 1.28 task and resume it later on, it finishes immediately and is returned to the server as a success. For example:

http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=173640156

is such a task. Claimed and granted credit appear to be correctly decreased proportionally, but still, why doesn't the task finish normally?

Best regards,
Alexander

Rosetta probably re-calculated that it would take longer to create a new decoy than your time-limit preference is set to. It therefore packages that one decoy and reports it. A Rosetta task consists of as many decoys as can be produced within the allocated time-limit that you set (4hrs by default I believe), so the task did finish normally.

If files becoming corrupt after download is a problem, it would be an idea for Rosetta@home to enable <verify_files_on_app_start>

This one ran over 5 hours (my preference is set to the default, 3) and seemed to be stalled, as the time to completion wasn't changing. I clicked on "Show graphics" and after a few seconds the work unit finished. The graphics never moved. Coincidence? Or flaw in 1.28?

This one 174259703 stalled after about 2 hours, eventually uploaded itself and reported yesterday. However there is no record of it so it appears to be lost somewhere in cyberspace.

The errors may indicate a corrupted database file. Can you try resetting the project?

If files becoming corrupt after download is a problem, it would be an idea for Rosetta@home to enable <verify_files_on_app_start>

will do, thanks for pointing that out.

Is there away to tell what model & how many decoys the work unit has done? I have had a look in the slot '0' & slot '1' folder but I can't see anything relating to models & decoys. Every time there is a checkpoint made does this mean that a model/decoy has been finished?
Thanks in advance

Everytime one of my computers runs the Minirosetta 1.28 it fails to complete, not a single one has ran successfully.
It has no problems crunching Rosetta 5.98 WU's, only the Minirosetta WU's fail

did you check your firewall settings? maybe it is getting stuck there?
are you doing a high overclocking rate?
just some ideas.

The minirosetta application has been crashing for me repeatedly over the past several weeks. Apparently both rosetta applications have been failing because none of my rosetta work units have succeeded. Below is a brief excerpt from the windows application error log:

Description:
Faulting application minirosetta_1.28_windows_intelx86.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x000106c3.

I'm running Kaspersky (ver 6.0) anti-virus but have not seen it showing any activity as a result of the rosetta apps running.

My minirosetta program seems to simply crash when BOINC attempts to run it - even if it's starting to run from 0%. Already tried suspending all other projects and restarting BOINC, but the problem persists.

The result : practically no WUs being properly run on my PC.

I'm not sure whether I was able to run it normally before, but based on going through my previous results, I think I've actually never been able to run it properly. Ever. Rosetta Beta works fine though, just not Rosetta Mini. Any ideas as to why?

Here's a link to a crashed WU:

http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=175946651

Active programs that might be interfering are Spyware Doctor & Avira AntiVir Personal (Free Version). Just using the default Windows XP Firewall.

Also, if nobody can suggest a way to fix it, is there any way I can disable the client from downloading work that needs minirosetta?

This workunit was probably the one where the graphics module failed to respond to resume this morning after a few hours with the computer in screensaver mode but still running with the monitor turned off.

Another workunit had the graphics part unable to recover during a wakeup from screensaver mode:

7/17/2008 12:18:50 PM|rosetta@home|Restarting task d001b_BOINC_CASP8_ABRELAX_RANGE_t465_IGNORE_THE_REST-S25-10-S3-8--d001b-_4239_256_0 using minirosetta version 128

I didn't record how much CPU time it used before going into screensaver mode, but there's a possibility that going into screensaver mode also stopped the CPU clock.

I'd consider turning off the graphics part of it, but haven't found any information on how to do that yet.

I have multiple WinXP Pro computers attached to Rosetta; three AMD-based boxes work fine (one Opteron 180, one Athlon64 3700+, one ancient AthlonXP 1700+), but my Intel-based laptop (Core2 Duo T9300) consistently fails ALL Rosetta Mini 1.28 workunits, usually after 20-35 seconds with a computation error. Occasionally, the laptop will simply hang on a RM 1.28 WU, and I'll have to abort it manually once I notice it. Once or twice I've gotten Windows error dialog boxes telling me that the RM 1.28 process terminated abnormally.

The laptop is new--I got it on July 3--but it has failed on hundreds of RM 1.28 WUs in the three weeks I've had it. As far as I know, it has not successfully processed a single RM 1.28 WU.

For dozens of examples, check my 22 Jul 2008 12:26:04 UTC and 20 JUL 2008 19:43:25 UTC report times.

I'm consistently having the same problem with the minirosetta screensaver. Every time I try to resume back from the screensaver, it stops responding and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Del to recover.

I quit downloading new tasks since July 7th since the minirosetta app kept crashing on me. I decided to try it again today but the work units fail immediately and the progress is set to 100% complete. Below is a portion of the messages just after the last crash:

what is the exit code on those?

I quit downloading new tasks since July 7th since the minirosetta app kept crashing on me. I decided to try it again today but the work units fail immediately and the progress is set to 100% complete. Below is a portion of the messages just after the last crash:

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean by exit code. If you're asking if there were any messages after this, then no. These are the only messages related to rosetta. The next messages were for the restart of seti@home.

what is the exit code on those?

review the message text related to the RAH task.
look for words like these and then what comes after them.

Outcome
Client state
Exit status
stderr out

since your computers are hidden no one can see what the actual error codes are.
so if you post the above information it will help mod or others know what to tell you and the team can see what the error is.

I've enabled my computer to be visible so you can see what's going on and I've also allowed new RAH work units to download. BTW, a task for Rosetta Beta 5.98 is currently running without a problem so far.

There is an active thread now for screensaver problems here.

I noticed this one was stuck. Must have been like it for 10 days as the machine always returns work within a few hours. Had the t405 type symptoms - was using it's quota, but not actually advancing, instead, Windows Idle Process was getting it's quota.

With the other things I've seen recently with messagebox crashes and strange failures, I'm starting to worry more and more about crunching Rosetta.
