Cancer doesn't discriminate, but I would like to give my servers most of the time here. But it does not look like this group is that alive. I have two questions. 1) should I join somewhere else to be more effective? 2) how can I help spread the word about crunching. Most users have very little knowledge how to setup this client. I have to admin BOINC is a great application and is very close, but it could be made a little bit more user friendly. Is there a source repository where I could help or create my own version 3) Also, a little off topic, I am a computer programmer. I would love to volunteer my time. Is there a need in any particular place? |

The teams for any given BOINC project may come and go, but R@h is definitely "alive", and running 200+GFLOPs. The BOINC Manager and client are open source and cross platform. So you might study the interfaces and source for it and devise an alternative solution. Some users find things simpler to install and run using a BOINC Account Manager. Especially if you want a number of machines to all be setup for multiple projects. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Team info Description Imagine joining Community grid and donating your unused computer time to help fight childhood cancer project and that would speed up discovery of a cure and your own child would be cured using that drug!! so when it comes to this team project. should I take my cpu (and soon gpu's ) elsewhere? I'm not sure what the question is? |

so when it comes to this team project. should I take my cpu (and soon gpu's) elsewhere? Your production looks great. 8000 credits per day Double the credits of anyone else who joined the same day as you |

According to BOINCstats, it's currently 103.581 TeraFLOPS. I wonder where the differences can be attributed to? Click here to see My Detailed BOINC Stats |

would my production be better served on a different team? |

would my production be better served on a different team? I understand now. It's difficult to ask that question here on Rosetta, but it's my understanding that other projects use the output from Rosetta to work on more specific projects, so by offering your time here you assist those projects too. Rosetta is primary project, with WCG and Malaria operating as backup projects only in case there's a problem here. That's my choice. |

Hi mevanchik, I'm a scientist using Rosetta@home, and I can 100% absolutely say that this group is alive and active. If you're interested in learning more about the breakthrough science that's made possible through Rosetta@home, check out the Baker lab website or the Institute for Protein Design. In the Baker lab, we're all working hard to improve human health and well being. Some of our work is directed towards making our design algorithms better. Other projects are aimed at generating state of the art protein-based nano materials, which could be useful for making new drugs, or even synthetic chemistry and electronics. Yet another wing of our research is aimed at making vaccines and therapeutics to combat cancer, influenza, ebola, malaria, or antibiotic resistant bacteria, to name a few. Unfortunately, because we are working so hard, sometimes we can be slow to post details about these projects here on the Rosetta@home forums. However, if you have any questions, please post them here! Best wishes, -Chris |

I think maybe he means the "My efforts against childhood cancer" team that he and one other are on rather than the project: https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/team_display.php?teamid=10569 However, a response from a member of the project is always welcome on the boards as it helps maintain people's faith that the resources they donate are being useful. P.S. just realised I've been running this thing for a decade now! |
