I'm a 35 year old bus driver from Oban, on the beguiling West Coast of Scotland. Prior to driving the buses I used to repair them, and still like to get my hands dirty when I can - I have a small fleet of cars ranging from a 2002 smart CityCoupe to a huge 2006 VW Phaeton. My pride and joy though is a 1965 Vanden Plas Princess which I bought as a rusty project in 2011, and made roadworthy once more. It'll never be a concours standard car, but I love it.
I also enjoy listening to music - some would call me an audiophile, but it's purely the music I like listening to. I have a Quad HiFi system with a pair of electrostatic loudspeakers. To me it just represents a wonderful thing to listen to the artists creations on, but I know other folk would pick up more on the equipment. My music taste is wide and varied, summed up as "anything that I like."
I enjoy going cycling, and although I'm not as fit as I was 20 years ago I enjoy trying to get out into the countryside and away from others. I ride XC rather than road.
Photography is another pass-time of mine, usually landscapes or nature, but I love to get shots of the night sky as well. One of the massive advantages in living in one of the more remote parts of the UK.
Your opinions about Rosetta@home
I run Rosetta@Home to help the scientists with their calculations. My old computers would otherwise sit idle, and although there are other BOINC projects available I beleive this is one of the most important. I also run the Climate Prediciton project, but that is currently on hold. I feel that every member of this world has a part to play in creating a safe future, and some people are in a position that they can directly affect this, mostly scientists, but also world leaders. Further down people of influence can help guide views, preferably correctly, and then people like me can do what we can - even if it's as simple as paying for the electricity to power a computer to sit churning calculations away in the corner of a room that in turn helps those at the top of the chain get the correct answers for everybody further down.
