| Engineer working in the chemical industry. Location: Connecticut, USA. Recently built a Ryzen PC with Nvidia card. Interested in optimizing performance, temps, power usage. I'm basically just letting BOINC run all the time to see how it compares to my previous iMac. So far, I'm only allowing 50% CPU usage which tranlates to 350 Watts (with GPU running other BOINC projects). I'd like to increase to 75% but am afraid of the temps and electric bill. |

Even though I work in another area of chemistry, the topic of protein folding is interesting to me. I took a few biochem courses in grad school and always hoped to learn more later in life. I run Rosetta at home to make a small contribution to advancing science.
One suggestion would be to enhance the screensaver. I enjoy seeing my computer at work and it gives me something to show my family when they complain about the electricity bill. Another thing that would be interesting to contributors is if the BOINC manager could display some visual snapshot of the tasks it is working on.
It would also be attractive to be able to quantify my contribution in a way that would allow for a US tax deduction. |
