Your personal background.
I'm a software engineer, mostly working on things Java these days. I've co-written two books on Linux applications and programming. I'm keenly interested in renewable energy, advances in science, particularly biology and climate studies. I'm just shy of 40 years old (as of this writing). I'm from Minnesota, USA.

I run Rosetta@home because I believe (based on my limited education) the application of the Human Genome Project lies in understanding the actual behavior of proteins. It isn't enough to know the genes, we have to know how they are expressed in the body. I think the immediate benefits lie in the pathology of proteins (cancer, Alzheimer's, etc.), but eventually we will be looking at improving body function, reducing decay, and other purely enhancing applications.

Even if none of this is true, all knowledge is fertile soil from which many unexpected things may spring. I like pure research. It is a good thing (tm).
