17 instances of valid jobs 0 time/credit (total) on 5 diferent boxes, since version 4.81 is not coincidence.

These are not the bad batch jobs River, I've had them too.

EDIT I have found 1 valid job 0 time/credit prior to 4.81. So I take back some of what I said above, but it is happening a lot more frequently (16 instances since 4.81).

Thanks for the figures - I agree a sudden increase on that scale is likley to be causal given that it remains after excluding the bad batches.

It seems then that the difference is one of degree. Not unseen before, but significantly more frequent now. How unreliable it has to get before you take your box to another project is an area where different people will have different feelings.

Myself, I'd already go fed up with win-98 on another project, which is why that box dual boots with Linux - but to go there would be off-topic... It is an alternative to going to another project tho ;-)

River~~

I've already gone! After 5 weeks or so with very smooth running, I was dismayed at all these things seemingly going wrong at once. Seemed like I was beta testing and I don't recollect signing up for that.

Is the science valid on these zero time units? Personal credit isn't the only thing that drives me to run projects, but good science and full credit is the least we should expect I would have thought. Seems at least one of these things isn't happening here at the moment.

I was also trying to troubleshoot a team mates inability to return valid work, then these bad units entered the mix, and hey ho, what's the point....

I was gobsmacked to read in another thread that there is as yet no in-house testing of work about to be sent out, and to make changes with no testing and before the holidays seems ludicrous, and dare I say a touch amateurish.

But, I would just like to say thanks to all the volunteers here who have helped me during this brief stay.

Onward to a more stable and Windows 9X friendly project methinks.

Some jobs run ok, others don't.

No jobs on my 9X machines have reported valid jobs with 0 time/credit prior to 4.81 I've just checked them all.

All instances have happened on or since the 21st December, when 4.81 was sent out.

One can hardly call that credit! However, yes you are right, the job took longer than the credit granted.

Windows 98SE. Rosetta 4.81.

The job below took at least 1 hour 40 minutes, ran to 100%, the job returned as valid, yet no credit. Why?

computer summary

Just checked a Windows ME machine, same thing.

Is there any point in running 9X machines?

I know the minimum required is XP but these machines have run well up to now, until Rosetta 4.81 that is :(

Oh and I'm now seeing errors on all my machines.... Not good.

When will these bad jobs flush out of the system?

Are there any known issues with either Skype or Messenger? Both applications have run ok for the last day. When BOINC running Rosetta was installed, both the above programmes have shut down 4 times in the last 10 minutes.

Post:
Actually, it's -1 for results reported as error, or not reported by deadline.
For each "success"-result, the quota is doubled

up to a maximum which is set by each project.

If you have a multi-cpu box, that box can get 2x (3x, 4x ...) the quota as appropriate

I think it is a neat system - it prevents a bad box from trashing a project, but applies forgiveness exponentially once the issue is sorted

I agree it is a neat system but the machine will still not send results. The last result was sent 17 Dec 2005 17:57:52 UTC Over Success Done. The machine runs 24/7.

One workaround I can see is to install a new BOINC in another location, then when that has sent a few results, merge the 2 computers (which really are the same computer}, my team mate can then keep the same nickname.

Thanks for your replies.

A team mate's PC has been having major problems over the last week or so finishing jobs.
The problem was an unstable PC which has now been rectified. However, the daily quota for that machine is 2 per day. Fair enough when turning in bad results but now things are ok, how does one now increase the daily quota? There is one completed job waiting to be sent, but it will not upload and has been in that state all day so far.
A valid result was sent yesterday and credit was awarded so the PC is now capable of doing the work. Will resetting the project do any good? I realise all work on the machine will be lost, but if the project is reset will the daily quota rise?

Thanks.

Legman, please listen to me - I sent out the e-mail. It was sent to my teamies in Deep thought. You have, as THINK said, 'installations still registered at Deep Thought'.

The team e-mail is sent using an online form - you know this because you and fluffy chicken tried to get it working sometime ago for your team. You should also know that I do not have your e-mail, I don't see the e-mail addresses, it's all done through FaD support.

FaD does not spam, I do not spam.

Despite what you say or think - you are wrong in this instance. We all make mistakes, in this case you didn't clear Deep Thought details from a defunct install, and you had the box ticked to enable e-mails from the team captain, ie, me. That is why you got my team e-mail, which by the way is information to tell my teamies what's happening and where we've gone. In no way was it a recruitment e-mail.

You say you wouldn't go back to the FaD forum, but you were there this afternoon, after your team captain, myself and THINK had posted.

What I would like is for you to apologise in that thread, both to FaD and to myself.

Thank you.

Here, well they're not all here where I am, some, infact all the rest are elswhere, but still within the boundaries of Yurp, possibly.....

So what you're saying is that my teammates are not quite all there? <grin>

That's the problem GP, I think they are all there, while I'm still here.......

Hi Fully, nice to see you here, or is that, there - anyhoo if there's good work to be done, we'll keep doing it.
