Posted 14 Jan 2011 by ![]() Post: Whatever opinion you want to express, EvoDude, your "bye bye Rosetta" was both impotent and petulant, irrespective of what you've done on Ralph. However limited the front page info it's been apparent the failure was extensive and mod.sense's reply seems as complete and accurate now as it did at the time. As was mine. Aye aye - whatever. Why you needed to get personal about it I don't know but my post had nothing to do with you and maybe if you spent more time addressing the failings in your own site it would have less dead/broken links and people on here would be allowed to have freedom of expression and state their opinion without fear of unwarranted personal abuse. Subject closed as far as I'm concerned but no doubt you will want to carry on your own wee petulant, impotent rant. Doesn't make you right, you know. |

Posted 13 Jan 2011 by ![]() Post: EvoDude, I am a volunteer moderator, nothing more. I don't have any additional information to offer on the servers or plans or problems, nor do I have any access to post messages on the project homepage nor access to it's servers. So please, don't leave on my account. The "Project Administrator" title posted next to my profile name is due to the standard BOINC server code, and is not an indication of any duties. So, because I've been busy doing other work, particularly at Rosetta's test project where I'm 14th in the world and highest, by a country mile, in the UK means I can't have an opinion on the handling of the volunteers in this part of the project? Get real mate and check your facts properly before you cast aspersions. I PM'd the Mod in question as soon as he responded to discuss this privately, again something you wouldn't know, but let's not let actual fact get in the way of you having a personal dig at me. My suggestion:- Keep your nose out of my business till you know what you are talking about. |

Posted 24 Feb 2006 by ![]() Post: Tony if you have not changed your Rosetta prefs and left as they were then they WILL default to the default setting of CPU time, which was 8 hours. This explains why Evo's WU started to run for over 7 hours..... Ok so I've changed my CPU time to 4 hrs. Does this mean I will get smaller work units? Does this help or hinder the project? (i.e. Do the project operators prefer us to run larger units?) It's a neat feature that could be handy for adjusting preferences according to your PC's capabilities. My own is an Athlon 64 3800+ running 2x512 Corsair RAM. |

Posted 24 Feb 2006 by ![]() Post: The experimental BOINC Client is still working faultlessly for me but I've got a couple of questions. #1. It seems to take a very long time to run a work unit. Using previous client I would complete a WU in under an hour but WU's on new client are taking over 7 hours to complete. Are they different WU's or is this a problem with new client? #2. I've added Ralph@home to my project list with a 50/50 split. It intitially switched but after the first hour it switched back to rosetta@home and has not switched again. That was a couple of days ago. |

Posted 18 Feb 2006 by ![]() Post: Tony, Yep, Connected straight away to localhost and is currently downloading work units. Thanks for your assistance in this problem and I have added a positive rating to your previous posts in appreciation of your help and time given. If no further problems, I'll come back here in a couple of days to update you on progress. Is there a seperate thread for posting any bugs found in this experimental version? Is it possible to connect to Ralph on this one too, as I would like to help where I can? |

Posted 18 Feb 2006 by ![]() Post: Tony, Happy to try anything to get back crunching again. Been with this project for nearly 5 months and would prefer not to have to change. I currently run an Athlon64 3500+ based system, which is very rarely suspended but left to run 24/7. How do I get the new version? |

Posted 18 Feb 2006 by ![]() Post: Tony. I've tried all your suggestions with no change in the situation. I use BOINC Manager version 5.2.13 although I have also tried the earlier version to see if it worked. Result was just the same - no connection to localhost. I have also added 127.0.0.1 IP address as a trusted address to my ZoneAlarm Pro firewall. As regards the CMD routine using netstat -a the first image below shows the result with BOINC Client failed and the second image is the result with no BOINC Client started. ![]() ![]() |

Posted 17 Feb 2006 by ![]() Post: I am having repeated problems with BOINC Manager not connecting to local host. I've tried uninstalling and installing it several times with no joy, including a change in diectory name to try to get round a possible Win XP registery problem. It happened last week but then, after repeated attempts to resolve the problem, it just started working again. I can get it to run as a CMD service but nothing on the GUI version. I have asked questions elsewhere in the forum without any response from the project staff so, just before I dump it altogether and move on elsewhere I thought I would post the problem here. |

(Message 10860)
Posted 17 Feb 2006 by ![]() Post: I take it nobody at rosetta is looking at this page! After solving the problem last week, with a little help from friends in the Unofficial Forum, it has all happened again. Complete uninstall/install (twice) in different directories it and it still won't connect to localhost. Due to lack of tech support at this site I think I'll take my spare cycles elsewhere. One would have thought that in a week someone who worked for the project would have checked this forum for reported problems and could offer us help to overcome it. I know I am not alone in this problem so some guidance would have helped a number of volunteers. |

Posted 23 Dec 2005 by ![]() Post: This thread has gotten very off-topic. And with your list of titles I would have expected a lot more helpful input than just to complain about being off-topic. Does nobody here know how to resolve a problem. I hope you have plenty of volunteers available because you'll start losing them very quickly with this sort of attitude. |

Posted 23 Dec 2005 by ![]() Post: His first post said: "I have been getting WU's that the time clock just stops and takes a reboot to get it going again I have had to reboot over 100 systems in the past 2 days Meanwhile, you just carry on with your own attitude problem - where is this going to end? Just because a person approaches you in a way you don't like it seems to make it alright for you to be unhelpful and tell them to leave the project. Now that is what I call 'brilliant forum moderation'! Perhaps after the first post you could have explained that these were legitimate WU names and not to worry. At least that would have settled the 'volunteer's' concerns on that matter. Also, if they are having to reboot to solve it does it not make it impossible to retrieve any informattion before rebooting. I know when my PC freezes it stops me doing anything other than 'press the button'. I only ask that, as a moderator, you do your best to resolve problems and not act like a child taking his ball back 'cos someone says something the wrong way. This is not me being rude, just some straight talking from a straight guy. |

Posted 23 Dec 2005 by ![]() Post: if this is a hard thing for you to handle perhaps you should stop giving help That was a really helpful response Bill, not! Have you checked the input that the project is getting from Lauren? I'm not sure you fully understand the role of moderator, voluntary or otherwise. Moderatorn a person who presides over at a public or legislative assembly. You are there to handle complaints or problems - not to exagerate them. If you read his post you will see that he clearly states that he is a plumber and has little or no technical expertise in the computing field. Why didn't you carefully explain what details you require and how to get them, you may then have got the information you required. Instead you have managed to drive away a volunteer who gave the project a heck of a lot of crunching power. |
