1) Questions and Answers : Windows : Boinc demands VirtualBox (Message 103794)

Where is boinc installed and complaining? Windows 10 or inside the running Virtual Box VM?

Directly on the Win10 host. The VM is an ubuntu bionic guest.

Instructions called VT-x orAMD-v

OK, thanks for confirming. VT-x/AMD-V are quite old at this point, and are in fact enabled on this machine.

Depending on your BIOS you may have to enable h/w virtualization there first. You may also have to select UEFI boot too.

Other virtualization features, including Hyper-V, are on, and of course this is a GPT/UEFI install with Secure Boot enabled (though neither of those things is necessary for Virtualbox to work; I am running it on an older Win7 box that uses Legacy/CSM/'BIOS' boot with an MBR-partitioned main disk without issue). Everything was working smoothly until the several weeks in November when I got no work. As it happens, Vbox 6.1.28 did not work with Hyper-V enabled on Windows 10, and they temporarily had people downgrading to 6.1.26 until 6.1.30 came out. That said, it's not clear why that should be relevant to me. The BOINC install should not be aware of the separate Vbox install, right? I have not granted any projects rights to use spawn VMs on my host.

Any case, right now I appear to have been assigned work again, for what it's worth. Hopefully that trend continues...

'Rosetta@home: Notice from server
"VirtualBox jobs require hardware acceleration support. Your processor does not support the required instruction set."'

This is on a Zen1 Threadripper machine that already has a vbox VM running in the background. I am not sure if I'm using hardware acceleration in it or not, but that said, which instruction set, precisely, am I supposedly missing?

Mhm...was wondering what was going on...the graphics on these work units have been screwing with the graphics drivers on multiple Windows machines.

On my laptop, which has an Intel 945GME chipset, the driver crashed; restarting Windows made everything fine.

On my desktop (Radeon 9550), the damn thing just corrupts itself and the screen goes totally haywire...with effort I got it to restart, but I was basically flying blind.

Desktop WU # is: 1zpy_BOINC_TWIST_RINGS_TWIST_ANGLE_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX-1zpy_-native_2477_243926__0

Laptop: ..._248644_0

This is pretty critical guys...the past month and half or so have seen a bunch of problems; maybe more resources should be reallocated to making sure things are stable rather than the beta/game stuff...

Boo, wish I read this sooner...I tried reseting the project, which promptly killed about 6 results ;(
