Lots of decoys!
(Message 41228)
Posted 21 May 2007 by MattDavis Post: I have a four hour runtime and usually get anywhere between 1 and 30 decoys, depending on the computer. This work unit was uploaded with 353! Is that normal? http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=81158543 |

No work from project
(Message 40844)
Posted 12 May 2007 by MattDavis Post: I don't think we have any server limitations, and we have plenty of funds to upgrade the current hardware whenever necessary. the work shortage this morning was our fault--we haven't been accustomed to work units being processed so quickly. needless to say, we have huge amounts of work to do, and will be making sure that the queue doesn't go empty again. sorry about this! keep on crunching! Dr. Baker, have you seen that new Rosetta team, Electronic Sports League? Their RAC is 500,000 and they've been around only for a few months! http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/team_display.php?teamid=5236 http://www.boincstats.com/stats/team_graph.php?pr=rosetta&id=5236 |

BOINC in Java code
(Message 40742)
Posted 11 May 2007 by MattDavis Post: It's an interesting idea but that would probably eat up the battery power too quickly and then your phone would be dead. |

Optimum CPU Run Time
(Message 40325)
Posted 4 May 2007 by MattDavis Post: And keep in mind that you can designate a different runtime for different BOINC locations too. So you can tailor each machine if you have more then one. I agree completely. BOINC already has a local options screen - it can't be too hard to add more options to that existing feature. |

WU run times out of whack
(Message 39590)
Posted 19 Apr 2007 by MattDavis Post: So - they'll just have to live with a few hundred WUs aborted every time I see them sending my DCF through the roof and the estimated run times exceeding 1:00:00. I hope they ban you from the project. |

Merging
(Message 39482)
Posted 16 Apr 2007 by MattDavis Post: Ok, I installed Vista. Now my computer shows up as another computer because it's running vista. Is there anyway to fix this? It won't let me merge them. No, unless the two systems are exactly the same you can't merge them. Since you changed the OS that counts as a signficant-enough change to be considered a different computer. |

BOINC and electricity
(Message 39472)
Posted 16 Apr 2007 by MattDavis Post: An interesting point comes to mind: It may not be worth running BOINC on old computers because the science completed by an old 450MHz desktop may not outweigh the expenditure of electricity and thus fossil fuels. Is the tiny amount of science crunched by old computers worth the extra pollution? What do people think about this? |

(Message 39429)
Posted 15 Apr 2007 by MattDavis Post: Boinc is not downloading from Rosetta. I have disabled my firewall, restarted my computer but the usual suspects are not fixing the problem. Here is a copy of my log below. I know it is a problem with Rosetta because malariacontrol downloaded without a problem. Have you tried reading the thread called "Failed Download"? |
