Boo, wish I read this sooner...I tried reseting the project, which promptly killed about 6 results ;(

If BOINC is telling you "project is down".... just wait for it to come back up. You can't do anything.

Rosetta Beta 5.85 WU's are using lot's of Memory and let my PC's crash. I cancel all 5.85 jobs. When not possible to cancel, Rosetta will be shut off until this problem is solved.

When running those I also use way too much VM [1.3 GB] I've got 12 beta 5.85 wu's left. What to do? Delete and wait for better times or suspend [deadlines? on the horizon] them till they have a fix for it?

If you have enough VM then just let them run. That's what I did.

Kind regards.

Try increasing your virtual memory size. That stopped the errors for me.

no matter how i set my prefs the project is always telling me that i dont have enough disk space, there's plenty of disk, it all seems to have started after the latest BOINC download and i've fiddled with the pref settings but no success

Have you checked BOTH the local settings AND the account settings (on the website)?

Can you be more specific?

Downloaded Boinc 5.10.29 fro the Mac and now i cant get any work units downloaded as BOINC complains about a lack of disk space ?

I've fiddled with the settings cant some up with anything that'll make it happy, anyone else ? And yes there's plenty of disk space.

Is it a problem with BOINC or Rosetta 5.85 ?

Check both local settings and your account settings (on the website) to make sure you have your settings high enough.

Well, I don't know about any memory problems, but I certainly noticed a 65% increase in time it took to crunch a WU (1gidA_BOINC_WEAKVDW_RNA_ABINITIO_SAVE_...). My bucket usually needs about 3 hours to finish a unit, but now with this 5.85 Beta it took a whooping 4:57:15! The excess time was in fact the last 5-7% which are usually reported as being completed in about 10 minutes. This time, those 10 minutes took 2 hours...

Yes, I was sitting here and watching it almost constantly (as I was waiting for the WU to finish before I was going to shut off the client for a while), and no, I wasn't doing anything else that would have had any impact on CPU performance. This is a bit... ridiculous. Makes me wish for 5.86 already. :P

I can answer this one.

The 1gid work units have really big decoys that take a really long time to crunch, meaning Rosetta often has to go over your suggested time in order to crunch a decoy.

For example, I have a 4 hour run time, but with the 1gid units the decoys are so big that a couple of my computers take 8 hours just to crunch 1 decoy.

So, in sum: this is normal for the 1gids, and you're getting a proportionate amount of credit.

There is something seriously wrong with the application. It's not a virtual memory hog it's a complete memory hog. I don't have virtual memory, have 2GiB of physical memory. Rosetta now uses 800MB of that for one wu. With the 600MB normally used this is not enough to run two or sometimes even one. I am aborting all version 5.85 tasks until they are disabled.

All Rosetta units are 5.85 now, so please don't abort hundreds of units over and over. Just suspend the project.

My computer with virtual memory issues has 256 megs of RAM. I upped the VM size to try to preclude more VM errors, and I see that one Rosetta task is using 900 megs of VM. 900.

Wow!

I would love to report a unit that errored out due to virtual memory issues, but I can't link to it because the stupid new spam filter won't let me post it.

Read my post above. Stop complaining!

I'll save Matt the trouble, lol :)

I originally posted the crying rabbit, but then I felt bad. Some of the guys on this board can't help being crybabies, so I shouldn't make them feel bad by pointing it out.

Hey guys! Let's post and complain multiple times every day when something goes wrong, and then be completely silent 99.5% of the time when things are working perfectly!!!!!!11

So when has Rosetta ever worked perfectly?

Forever. You must be new around here.

It's been 3 days since an XML update. Anyone know what's going on? There's a whole lot of silence on the Home Page, or anywhere else for that matter. Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Remember that it's the weekend. The project staff doesn't sit at work 24/7.

This is just a heads up that tons of MFR_SYMM_FOLD_AND_DOCK_RELAX units are erroring out AFTER crunching for a full runtime, which is annoying. It also errored out for people who got the unit after mine errored out.

Just a heads up!

edit: This isn't just one computer of mine but many different computers, not to mention that other people errored when they got the same unit. So it's not just a faulty computer on my end!
